Hi, I will have my new SNG in a few hours but I am wondering how you guys carry it. Pocket, sheath?

IMO a sheath defeats the whole purpose of carrying a folding knife. I carry mine strong side, front pocket.... or in the waist band (IWB), strong side, between hip bone and cheek..

The SNG is on the shortlist in my rotation; all of my folders get carried clipped to my LF pocket. I am right handed, but have a S&W 442 in my RF pocket and for safety reasons will carry nothing else in that pocket.

The only knife I carry in a sheath is a Buck 110, and I've cut the flap off that sheath so its an open top.

indeed, the sng is best in the pocket. i carry it RH in the right front pocket, or IWB at the 4 o'clock if i'm in running pants or something. the clip is really solid. i have carried an sng for 4+ years.

So excuse my newbie ignorance, but when you say inside the waistband you mean clipped with knife in your jeans, clip outside jeans in between jean material and belt. It is secure that way? Do a lot of people carry iwb?

I carry all folders IWB (In the Waist Band), if they don't feel right, I don't carry them.

That's IWB. I've carried large and small knives that way for years. Very comfortable, more accessible than some pockets, and no one notices. I carried on the job in suits, jacket on or off, and no one noticed (except they got used to the idea that I always had a knife :) )

Its also depending on the knife regulations in your area...

Some areas dont allow knives to be hidden and some does..

I carry mine either way here in California...I have a Lifter Sheath and I also carry it clipped to my jean pocket..

Always a good point. I carried in New York City, where the law requires concealed carry. At the time, a visible clip wouldn't get you in trouble; now it will. But IWB avoids questions altogether.

no reason for s sheath with a SnG or SmF imho, pocket carries fine, IWB would be too.

now a AR or GB is a different story though, for me anyway.

A sheath will keep you from having bulky pockets and not everyone can legally carry fixed blades......

Like Powernoodle, I carry my off duty pistol strong side. Nothing else.
I carry my right handed SNG weak side (on the left hand side) in a Desantis Leather SIG 239 magazine holder. I put the SNG there when I got it out of curiosity and the fit and practicality of it just blew me away. The fit is awesome and I can customize the tension with the tension screw. I will be getting a lifters once I get my SMF to replace the SNG while she is gone away getting sheathed. My light (nitecore defender) goes into the front left pocket usually with a lanyard.

One thing... I recommend if your going to carry weakside with your non dominant hand, you must practice alot. I practice unsheathing and opening the blade often and also unsheathing the blade without opening it and using the ends as a striking tool. Activities you can do between your log ins to blade forums ;-)

I carry my SNG about 350 days a year. Its always clipped in (to) my pocket... no sheath.

what if you're permanently logged in to Bladeforums 24 hours a day

:D

Esav we need you here 24 hours to keep order in (& spam out) of our favorite playground.

So maybe you can type with the right hand and practice your draw and strikes with your left hand..... for variety switch hands every half hour:D

As usual, I'm the odd man out.

I carry my SnG in a belt sheath. I have a couple of cheapies for around the house and shop, and nice TAD Gear ones for Sunday-go-to-meeting wear. Someday, I'd like a nice leather sheath.

I don't use my knives for self defense, so speed is not a factor for me. My only concern is that I can easily deploy the knife one handed so I carry the sheath on my strong side at four o'clock. Even then, I'm not really slow in the deployment.

I have heard too many horror stories about knives being lost while pocket clipped. Also, here in the Florida heat, it keeps the knife out of my sweat soaked pockets while working outside.

Cheers,
dan :)

The clip on my SnGs are so tight , it sometimes takes two hands to get them outta my pocket... One on the pocket rim/welt to keep it from bunching up, and the other on the knife. Dare I say, the SnG ain't goin' anywhere.

I would say though, I've almost lost my current Seb a few times , and indeed have left it in my, and a friend's cars for a few days from coming unclipped accidentally. I also LOST lost a seb in the Arkansas river from it falling out of IWB...bad day!

..while the SnG undeniably offers more security.... it may be a tad much.. As far as keeping the knife In yer pocket, its the best I've come across.
