Strider SNG CC as tough as regular version?

What's up everyone. After my search for the ultimate blade getting me into a PT a couple of months ago I finally gave in and bought an SNG CC off the forums here last week (thanks Albert!). I got to the post-office yesterday finally to get the beast in hand, and she is absolutely wicked. Any of you who are dreaming of getting one and wondering if they are cool, rest assured, they are. I can't give a pic right now but it is a ranger green version with tiger-striped blade, and it looks and feels ready to take on the world...

I have to admit, however, that the handle slabs do feel quite thin. I've heard other people mention the same thing, especially on SMF CC's which are bigger without a lot of extra thickness. So it got me wondering...are the Strider CC versions likely to be less strong than their regular 'lego' bretheren? I'd love to hear from someone who was willing to test the lateral strength of both versions, or at least the CC version to see if the weak point is now in the handle behind the pivot. It certainly isn't likely to be the blade which is hewn from the thickest stock I've ever seen.

Any thoughts or experience? I wish Noss or someone would do some folder destruction tests. THAT would be interesting.:thumbup::thumbup:

Absolutely. 100 % solid in all aspects.

I had a SnG CC, and my Brother-in-law has the regular SnG. I never did any "Noss type" tests, but from what I could tell one is just as tough/strong as the other. I think the only real difference is comfort, etc.

I haven't gone to work with it yet but it definitely feels sharper around the edges. I've heard people comment on that before too. On the other hand, it is pretty sleek in the pocket which is a big plus to most of us (definitely me). I've done some hard whittling with my PT and it has felt great. I'll have to put the SNG-CC through its paces and report back. It sure is puuuurdy. :D

lol of course it's just as strong and if something ever did happen to ur knife I'm sure they would take care of you no worries

I think the regular version would be a little tougher. There is a tiny bit more ti and g10 in the design.

I agree. Not saying the CC version is weak by any means, just possibly a smidge less robust than the lego version at certain points (like around the pivot) due to less G10 and titanium. And before anyone blasts me... yes, I have owned an SnG CC (and PT CC), but not an SnG lego. Although, I have handled and used the regular versions of both, and I think they actually feel more solid. Who know for sure, though. I love both versions.

I'm guessing that there is some loss of strength, but not so much that it'll matter. All of the broken Striders that I've seen on forums tend to break (from lateral stress) somewhere on the blade around the opening hole. If anything, as thick as the blade is, it will most likely be the one to go under abuse. Opening holes seem to significantly decrease lateral strength in blades. Again, not so much that it should matter. The breaks that I've seen have only occurred under extreme abuse. If worst comes to worst, send it in and they'll replace it no questions asked (so long as you don't pimp it).

As mentioned probably just a bit because there's less material, but honestly I never felt it was "weaker" by design.

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. I looked around for a while to try to find information on how Striders fail but didn't get any hits. It would definitely be interesting to see if a CC version would still fail in the blade or if the failure would move to the handle behind the pivot where the slabs are thinner.

This is all just me wondering things out of interest; I'm sure a large amount of abuse would be required to achieve any failure. It sure is a sweet knife and it rides easy in the pocket too. In fact it is there right now :thumbup::thumbup:
