Anyone picked up one of these yet and have an opinion. Also how hard are they running the steel? Ankerson?

I got one the other day. Really nice... but as far as rockwell hardness goes I have no idea. I would pick one up before they are gone.

I recently got an SA-GG w/ CTS-XHP. Ive used it a BUNCH this last week for standard EDC tasks and it performed great... Then a few days ago I sliced open 30 bags of quickcrete (premixed, just add water, concrete). I'll admit that I was a bit hard on it... really digging into the aggregate. It performed the task admirably and though any kind of nice edge was shot, the "working edge" it did keep was at least adequate. It was a major PITA to get a nice sharp edge back though. I can't say I can notice much difference between it and my S30V Striders. If it was significantly tougher than S30V I'd say it is the bees knees, but nothing I've seen on any charts leads me to believe it is. In normal & hard use, considering sharpening, ect. I don't see any reason whatsoever to run out and buy one because of the steel. The steel is good and the design is excellent. That'd be the reason I WOULD recommend one.

^ I would think opening all of those bags of quick crete would tear the edge off of any steel or chip it. Especially if your hitting rocks. I would think they run the steel where it has better toughness as opposed to maximum edge holding.

I agree. It is a pretty brutal task. BUT a couple years ago I added a bathroom onto a friends house. I used an S30V Spyderco Military to open over three pallets 90+ bags of quickcrete! I rarely use my knives to do stuff like this...but sometimes testing is part of the fun of this hobby! The Millie performed pretty similarly... still held an adequate working edge through the abuse but took half as long to get a perfect edge... and I cut over three times as much. I only compare it to the Millie since it is the only other knife I've done this particular task with.

I should stress that I may end up eating my words about cts-xhp. I've only had the knife for 10 days... but I have been using it a bunch. I live off the grid and am a river guide and general contractor so to say my knives see a lot of use would likely be underestimated! Only time will tell.
