I had wanted a SNG dgg for a longggggg time, and today I finally got one. I like a lot of it's features, but am surprised how much flex there is in the handle. It worries me that the knife may not be great for hard-use. Has anyone used there SNG dgg in the field? To be honest, my large Sebenza feels like more of a hard-use knife than this Sng. I'm going to give it another few days, but this one might be going up on the exchange.

Striders are Built to be used hard, very hard. Why they have Bull Pivots.. And if you break anything Strider will make it right.
Someone Did this after hard using his SnG for awhile..

And Mick Strider Said...
"Send that knife in for some love Brother, she's earned it."

So you the hell out of it and don't look back

My DDG SnG doesnt have any flex. Did you buy it new or used? I got mine used and the pivot was really loose so there was side to side play. Once I tighten the pivot it is now rock solid.

I would check to see if there is side to side play, you shouldnt even be able to force any. If there is, then thats where the flex is coming from. First check to see if the closest screw to the pivot is tight. Sometimes they can loosen and would cause flexing. Then check the pivot and tighten if needed.

If you dont have a spanner tool you can either buy one or make one. I made mine from a bike chain ring tool. I think it was like $5 and it took like 2mins with the demel to make it fit.

I bought it used, but barely. The "new" lockup is completely solid and there is no play. I don't feel the flex while I'm gripping the knife, just when I squeeze the g10 and titanium together with my thumb and pointer. I'd say this is pretty normal considering that the g10 and titanium are thin compared to the lego version. I've also got gorilla hands so that might have something to do with it. Thank you for the bike chain tool idea, I'm going to try it out.

I experienced the same handle flex in on my sng cc. that's the reason I sold it
will prolly get a new one someday because i like the design, but in all honesty i was a bit disappointed.
imo crk's and a fortiori hinderers feel tougher. (not saying striders arent tough, they just don't feel tough, mine didnt anyway)

Many soldiers swear by Strider.
No complaints with my SnG.
Pohan Leu makes one tough yet gorgeous folder.

Mick said the Lego, dgg, and cc are about equal in strength for the end user. To me, my gg SnG is thinner and doesn't feel as robust as my cc, but if you do anything to damage it they will fix it for the $15 return shipping.

I am a big supporter of Strider, but for your harder use, you might want a SMF instead. Bigger, larger pry-bar.

it's not like it's thicker,

Yes, it's thicker. I've had perhaps four or five of each of those. The Sng mikes at 0.165"; the SMF mikes at 0.190". Also specs by Strider. So yes, the grind is important also. The tanto tip is thicker by design, but the SMF in any blade shape is a bigger, THICKER, larger prybar.
The fact that the SMF was built to handle that kind of stress is evidenced by the fact that the U.S. Marine Corps chose the SMF as their official folding knife in 2003.

from Wikipedia: "After rigorous field testing, including parachute jumps, the unit's Commanding Officer,
Colonel Robert Coates remarked that the knife was "selected by, built for, and issued to the Marine Corps SOCOM Detachment."

Just use it.
I don't know about hard use, but my DGG SnG has held up well to woodsy, "bushcrafty" type usage just fine.
It won't be any issue at all unless trying to pry out tree roots or something anyway, and I don't envision too many times that is needed.:)

I beat the crap out of my dgg SnG for about 3 years. No woods stuff but I do commercial construction. I had a cc smf but didn't keep it long enough to put it through it's paces. It definitely made my SnG feel like a light weight. No doubt either will stand up to some abusive non knife use. I've also had good service from Strider's warranty department. No questions asked.

I will say this...this knife is growing on me. The lock isn't sticking anymore and opens/closes much smoother. I find that my EDC blades need to able to take some abuse as I am on the road one minute and in the woods the next...so I will put this SNG through it's paces. If I don't feel confident in it's hard-use capability I will try the lego version or upsize to the SMF. Thanks y'all.
