Hi all!

Thanks in advance for taking the time. I've always wanted a Strider SNG, and finally saved enough/bought one on ebay. Wondering if you all have any thoughts?

The action is really stiff - and I mean really stiff. Otherwise, it's flawless. Any chance I've gotten a fake? I haven't any experience with one in the flesh before this one - apologies if I'm pressing the limits with the "is it real" question!

Assuming I've gotten a legitimate piece, any recommendations where to send to loosen up the lock and such?

Best and many thanks,
Nic

Nah dude, looks legitimate to me. It needs some love. Both the gentle kind and the rough type. If you're able to, clean and lube the pivot and adjust it to where you like it. And like BellaBlades BellaBlades said, use it. Use the he'll out of it.

Nice piece. Good luck on your adventure.

Really appreciate your weighing-in! Cheers.

Congrats on your new knife. Like the others said, use it and it will loosen up. Or you can get a pivot tool and micro adjust your pivot to your liking.

ps. The whole flipping them open and letting them fall shut wasn't really a thing with Striders until about the time they adjusted their lock face. I would ASSume most pre adjustment Striders feel stiff to the new knife collectors that think it isn't right if it doesn't flip or close easily.

Congrats on the new Strider. My 1st 'proper' folder was also a Strider but it was a SmF, in ranger green Drop point with tiger stripes. Loved it to bits. A real tool and very hardy. With use the tiger stripes will go away. Most importantly get to know your pivot and its sweet spot well. Striders do sometime suffer from lock stick but they are tuneable.

Nice blade.!!! Classic design you cant go wrong with that choice!! just don't loan it to anyone!!

They can surely come stiff -known as Strider thumb. I had one that was so stiff the metal creaked when disengaging. I had to use 2 hands and was seriously considering using my feet also:). Best to just start using it , or get a long movie and just open and close for awhile. Some graphite on the lock face will help with lock stick. You can also loosen the pivot a touch to help in closing and opening.
Enjoy your knife, the SnG is one of my favorite knives.
If you decide you have a real problem, you can send it in to Strider(MSC) and they will adjust it, but that will take much longer than breaking it in yourself.

Congrats on your SNG! I've got a couple SMF's and they can be really tight.
If a shot of Tuf-Glide and working it for a day doen't loosen it up, either get a pivot tool and adjust or send it to MSC for adjustment.

What's already been said, use it, break it down, clean it and apply new lube. If I had to guess, it's probably never been taken apart. The grease is probably old making it stiff. Adjusting the pivot does help. You'll nee an allen wrench and a strider tool so you don't scratch it up. If you can't rotate the pivot assembly, chances are it's too tight.

Congrats on saving up for it and not using a credit card!!!
Just lube it and use it, I prefer Quick Release

Good on you. I saved up and bought myself my 1st tattoo at 24... 20 some+ ink sessions later, and still going, w/ no regrets + pride in ownership, is a win/win.

Nice to see young folks still earning...
