I'm curious about maintenance. What kind of lube should I be using? I have the chris reeve grease, benchmade blue lube, and Tuf Glide. Are any of these fine?

What do I need to adjust the pivot? All I've seen are impossible to find Atwood tools and expensive ones by Hinderer.

you can use two hex keys, one on either side of the pivot, to adjust or remove the pivot.

i put a drop of a very low viscosity oil in between the bushing and blade w/o taking it apart. has been very smooth since.

you can use two allen wrenches to adjust the pivot? am i missing a new technique or something?

in my experiences with sng/smf's i needed a spanner wrench and an allen wrench to adjust the pivot.

you have options, mongo. hinderer make a strider tool that includes a spanner. i have one, and it works reasonably well. like this:

another thing you can search for is bicycle tools. strider bolts are the same thing as bicycle chainring bolts. park tool makes one, which you can buy for like 4 dollars. the only thing is you have to grind down that center "tooth." google like, "park tool chain ring."

or lastly, and more ghetto... i once stole a fork from the dining facility, bent the prongs, and used that as a spanner wrench.

as for lube, any will do. crk florinated grease is nice. miltec is nice. 3in1 is nice. if it lubricates, it will probably be ok.

strider does NOT recommend you taking apart your sng. if you lose/break parts it is not going to be covered under the warrantee. if you have a problem with your sng, your safest bet is to send it back to strider w/ a *specific* letter of what you need.

ur right, it was just one hex key.

but i dont have a spanner, and didnt have a problem adjusting mine.

If there is no loctite on the pivot bolt you will have no problem with out a spanner, if you have loctite on the bolt you need to heat it to around 300F and remove the bolt using a spanner and 1/8" hex wrench. Strider uses those bicycle chain tools too. (Been there done that great people.)

You must have an older knife. I can see through the pin on my two SNG's...no hex wrench would work with mine.

maybe, its a cc model. i can see through the pivot too, but a hex key fits perfectly in the spanner side.

AFAIK. Strider uses one kind of bolt on all full size pivots the PT has a smaller pivot.

I would say no, the key is to heat it if it isn't moving no matter how much you torque it, without softening the loctite it will break something. Those wrenches linked above are the ticket, and Striders personal choice tool, albeit they do some hand grind mods to make them work.
