Allright,

I am new to striders and this may be complete sacrilege but I hate the G10 portion of the SNG I just bought, so I am now trying to resell it. I am looking to see if anyone knows of a replacement titanium for the g10 portion of the handle. I cannot stang G10!!

I know it will increase weight and so forth, but someone please help. I would love to keep the knife and just change out a portion of it.

As you probably know, modifying the knife by replacing the original scale with an aftermarket one will void the warranty. I don't know of anybody off the top of my head who makes custom titanium scales for Striders, but it couldn't hurt to post in the "services wanted" area of the knifemakers' area here to see if anyone might be able to do something like that for you.

Another possibility would be to keep an eye out for Mick Strider and Duane Dwyer custom SnGs, which often have carbon fiber scales on the non-locking side instead of G-10. Mick also makes some with titanium scales on the non-locking side, although those are less common than the carbon fiber versions. Obviously, a Mick or Duane custom will cost more than the standard production SnG, but the cost probably isn't much different from having a custom titanium scale made and comes with the additional benefits of an intact warranty and one of the cool grinds Mick and Duane use on their customs.

Strider also makes production SMFs with aluminum scales on the off side. I haven't heard anything for certain about whether they'll also offer aluminum-scaled SnGs, but if they eventually do that would definitely be the easiest and most economical way to go.

Hey Neuron,

I imagine I Should just find myself an aluminum SMF or save for a custom. I agree the costs will most likely be the same. Since being new to striders I was hoping there might be a bigger aftermarket market for it than for some other knives. Anyhow, I think I will just have to pick up a custom. I want myself a nightmare grind, only issue is I can't see myself EDC-ing a 1300+ knife....

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

The knife is actually stiffer and stronger with the G10 spacer/scale piece than with replacement titanium parts...
