OK so a young man I know acquired an SnG a couple of weeks back, well he just came by my house with said SnG I bought him and he has dropped the knife breaking the very tip off the blade. Cosmetically you can barely see any material is broken off,but performance wise the knife has little penetration capability now. I know striders warranty about mods, but I have a ton of sharpening equipment and could fix this in no time , but don't want to risk voiding his warranty if I had to grind the spine a bit. I've spent about 10 mins on a DMT xxç and I have got a decent tip back on it , but nothing like it was , so any advice before i proceed would be appreciated.

I would say just use the knife as it is now, sharpen it when it needs sharpening, and if the damage is minor enough (like you say it is) then the issue will resolve itself with time. Or you could just do a lot of reprofiling and restore the tip that way. That doesn't count as modding and wouldn't void your warranty.

Lastly, my understanding of Striders warranty is that they will insure you always have a functional knife. So technically with only a little of the tip missing, the knife is still functional, so they likely wouldn't repair/replace the blade anyway.

As long as there is no lock rock or blade play with the knife open go for it. Like any knife maker warranty, if its been altered, you will get charged if you send it in. They will still repair it.

Why grind the spine?

Just bring the edge up, sharpening is not modifying. Besides it will result in stronger tip of done correctly.

What unit said... Don't grind the spine. Knock a couple of millimeters off of the belly just before the tip (around 1/4" to 3/8" back from the tip). That should leave it nice and pointy. You can always call or email Strider and ask. Post a pic here if you can, would love to see what you are dealing with.
