Well, I'm getting closer to purchasing a SNG but am not a fan of the single G10 scale. Is it possible to get these with all titanium?

Thanks!

They are not offered by Strider that way, you would need to contact a maker like Reese Weiland and have him make you one.

They're all like that, half G-10. Looks strange at first, never bothered me actually, I'm sure you'll get used to it.

I got one recently. Really a unique knife, just a very distinctive combination of otherwise common elements.

I had handled a couple of them, really liked the AR, have had a Buck/Strider for a while, but the SnG is the most reassuringly solid but compact knife I've ever owned.

If you're worried about the strength of the G10 side, don't be, it's at least as strong as the Ti side. There is a sledgehammered SnG to prove it. :)

Its not the strength I am worried about, the mismatched scales just seem "unbalanced" to me. Other than that, everything about the spear point model seems perfect to me. However, I imagine it would be impossible to match the existing patterned titanium with a custom titanium G10 scale replacement.

As suggested above, contact Reese Weiland. He did a custom Ti SnG that looked flawless.

Interesting point on the single G10 scale. Strider did a small seminar on thir company and products at the recent Chicago area customknife show. The single side of g10 was brought up as something they have been asked about before. Mick Strider pointed out that while Titanium is very light and strong that it will flex under stress and that the G10 actually resists flexing better than Titanium so the combination actually produces a stronger knife than if they had used a Ti scale on each side. The back spacer is also milled from the same slab of G10 as the handle so there is a pretty thick cross section of G10 down the back of that knife.

This might not change your mind at all about replacing the G10 I just thought it was pretty interesting insite on the reason for the unusual design. And here i thought they did it jsut to be different.

The SnG is one of the most "balanced" knives I own - a pleasure to hold, no matter which grip you prefer.

An SnG is something I'd really like to own but out of my price bracket at the moment. I'd be very interested to hear what you thought of the Buck/Strider. I've been thinking about getting a Tarani, obviously not an SnG, but it appeals to me and I can probably afford it.

gajinoz, the Buck/Strider I have is the original large spearpoint, more like a Strider AR than an SnG. The Tarani has the profile of an SnG, but the blade is very different -- not bad, either, even with the serrations. The handle and especially the liner lock are nowhere near the solidity of the SnG framelock. I handled one at a New York knife show at the Strider table, and they were trying to tell us what a tough knife it was, developed for law enforcement. I think it's a good knife, very much like a heavy-duty Spyderco or Benchmade or Cold Steel, but not as tough as my Buck/Strider.

the SNG, with it's G10 slab is good. light and very strong. And once you've held it, you won't think it's mismatched. go on, try it first.

Thanks for the review. I notice that NGK has a plain edge Tarani
for only $106.25. Tempting ...

Just a quick note on the Buck Strider Tarani. They are coming out with a newer version of it with G10 scales and a thicker liner lock since people have complained that the liner lock looks too thin. When plain edge versions of that become available I think I may have to pull the trigger on one. My understanding is that the G10 scaled knives are supposed to be available very soon. They are on the Buck website already.

Suffering from heavy-cutter withdrawal (My SMF is at Strider for a tune-up), I ordered one the $106.25 Tarani Plain Edge folders. My impressions are here : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316179

I've since sanded down the sharply-checkered scales and re-edged the blade. The ATS34 blade is holding up well in some carpentry tasks.

Nice knife for the money!

So where is the best place to pick up a Strider SNG? TAD is out of the spear point.

Look in the Dealers For Sale section here, you'll find what you're looking for.

I have Two Sngs

Gen 5 Unmoded

and Gen 2 With Titanium Scales.

The bad thing about Titanium is it scratches on just about everything.
The suprising thing is its actually kind of grippy but nothing compared to the g-10.
The good thing is its smooth like i dont know if any of you have had this problem but i put my wallet in my right pocket and trying to get it hurts! The g-10 is annoying in that regard.

The G-10 one is also lighter.
