Considering buying an SNG. The only thing I've decided for sure is to get the full ground spear point blade.

I'm looking at handle options.

The standard appears to provide good grip and fill the hand since it's pretty blocky. But is the G10 too aggressive where it will wear my pockets down?

The CC version is more rounded on both sides, appears to carry better in a pocket. Does the thinness make the grip uncomfortable or slippery?

The Double Gunner seems to be rounded on both sides, but still provide some grip.

CC and DG cost an additional $75.

To those who have used two or more of the above models, what are your thoughts? The knife will be used with gloves on quite a bit as well.

I have the standard g10, and I do not find it too grippy by any means... although I would LOVE a GG... I think the CC would be too slick for my liking... I vote GG if the extra money doesn't bother you, given it was my first Sng and I was unsure if I would even like it, I decided to hold off on the extra money models until deciding if the original was even worth the cash... now that I have decided such, I hope to get a GG soon...

No, the standard scales won't wear your pockets down at all.

Double GG will tear up your pockets though.

I use my SMF CC SW as my EDC and don't find it too slippery.

If worried about a good grip get the standard scales.

Cool, thanks. Think I'll save myself some money and go for the standard.

That is, if I can decide between CRK and Strider.......seems like I go back and forth every 5 minutes. And no, "buy both" is not an option at this point. :D

I hear ya. Every time I even entertain the notion of paying that much for a pocket knife I remind myself I can buy a lightly used Glock for the same amount!

I have plenty of Glocks. :)

I like the handle design and clip location of the Umnumzaan. I like how sleek it is. I like the extra blade length. I like that they are typically a bit cheaper and more available on the used market.

I like the thick steel of the Strider, I like the choil, and I MUCH prefer the opening hole to what appears to be a fairly difficult to use thumbstud on the CRK's. I like the warranty, even if it may be somewhat time consuming to get work done. This knife will be used outside in the weather and with gloves on often, it appears the larger SNG will fit that role better. That, and I'm a long time Spyderco fanboy. Opening holes FTW.

I think I just talked myself back into an SNG. :D

Get the standard grip on the SNG for sure. It's perfect on that knife.

But I will add that I prefer the Umnum to the SNG ;)

I think a CRK/Strider collaboration is in order...something with the quality & fit/finish of a CRK and ergonomics/aesthetics (choil, digi-camo, etc.) of a Strider.

You know I too couldn't decide, but just went with the standard-3/4 grind though. I love it. I'm also in SE michigan, what a small world

Get what you think you will like the best. Honestly whichever one you choose you will end up with the other one also.

I have all three versions. The gunner grip is very rough on the pocket and eats it up, I had to get a belt sheath for mine. The CC is my favorite, it feels great in the pocket and in your hand. The CC is thinner than the standard so if you should consider wether you want the thicker handle or not. The standard feels more solid, and I woud prefer that for heavy work/long use because of more surface area on the handle. I use the CC for just wearing around and not for heavy use. I think the GG would be best for a defensive situation where grip is more important than comfort.

hope that helps and enjoy your strider.

Never had a CC, but my regular and DGG will do some damage to your pocket. I think mainly cause the clips on them are so damn tight. Bend the clip a little and you will be good

I really like the regular model. It's thicker than the cc and gg models, I can only guess that it will be more solid as a result.

I prefer the CC for edc. Carries light and is not as slippery as one would think due to the handle ergos. However if you are really gonna use it hard, I prefer the regular or lego handles as on my RW-1. Gunner grips are just plain cool!

Matador-

Well I pulled the trigger on a regular SMF from the exchange forums here. Was going to go with an SNG, but I like big knives and this one presented itself. :)
