I bought this strider new and it came with a very sticky lock. I think its there newest model which has a new lock face. This thing pissed me off. So its been sitting in my drawer. I was gonna send it back to strider but im a tinkerer. I looked at my sebenza and xm18 to see why they have such a smooth locks. The part of the blade that made contact with the lock (tang?) looked really smooth on those two knives.

So i took my strider apart and put a high polish on that part. There suppose to be flat now but there not. So i used a medium spyderco stone to make it flat. Than i progressed to the fine and ultra fine stones. Than i polished it further with some flitz. Im not sure if that last step is nessary or not. Either way the result was awesome. I now have a strider with a buttery smooth lock. Its very solid with 0 blade play. I love when these things turn out good. So i figured id share.

I took my time doing this removing the least amount of metal i could. Im sure if you over do it you could ruin the knife. Im almost sure this voids the warranty also.

You dont have to polish the whole lock face it was just easier to do so. Only the tiny part that touches the lock bar matters.
Its still no CRK or Hinderer buy any means. There locks are made with a whole lot more precision.

excellent post. did you try adding some graphite (pencil lead) or maybe a Sharpie marker before doing this ? this is probably the best way get rid of the stickiness but its definitely a lot of work. i am lazy guy. lol.

Thanks. I did try graphite and a sharpy first, but it wasnt making it as smooth as i wanted.

The lock-tang is ground with an 8inch wheel which leaves a slight curve.
It's not perfectly flat, but it's much flatter than the earlier, radiused lock-tangs that were ground with a 1inch wheel.

I don't endorse amateurs modifying the critical parts of their knives like this, but I'm glad you achieved your goal.
