The strider Sng..... One of my favoite knives.. love everything about it. But I want to hear your opinion on it. Pros, Cons, What you love about it what you dislike about it, on a scale of 1-10 (1 being its like an average knife to 10 being best knife you ever owned) what do you think? just wanna hear some opinions about it. and pictures are great =]

There is ONE thing I don't like about the SnG... I wish the tip of the blade was further in the handle when closed.... for whatever reason, I like to see a blade sit further in the handle.

My SnG has a non-existent ball detent. The blade flops out way too easily, even more easily than my paramilitary. I suppose i could send it in for service, but the last time I sent mine in for minor repairs it took over a month to get back

I dislike the cost and how their fit and finish quality is a bit sporadic. It's a good design with excellent materials tho.

Sng or Strider folders are just a notch behind the XM-18 Hinderer in MY favories.

in quality the Hinderer XM-18 is far better. The XM-18 is a cross between the quality sebenza precision and ruggedness of the strider.

But i love the overall design of the Strider and on my "like-ability" list it goes behind the Hinderer and waaay ahead of the Sebenza.

Scale of 1-10 - about an 8.5:cool:

I have the standard SnG with tiger stripe blade and black G10.

Likes::thumbup: Materials, stout, solid lock-up, ergos, strong pivot pin, flame treat on the titanium, checking on the G10 scale, jimping good, overall looks of the knife, weight, choil

Dislikes::thumbdn: Blade cutting surface too short, pocket clip, slight rusting or "freckling" on tiger stripe model, lanyard hole not effective (blade will eventually cut thru your lanyard), price, need to buy spanner tool to take knife apart

I bought a new one as I am very impatient once I decide to get a new knife. That being said, if I had to do over again, I would search the exchange on this forum and try to pick one up used. Unless the prior owner abused the knife, you will get many, many years out of a used one - they are hard use knives.

A little bit about the blade thickness - the blade is sharp when you get it, but not "scary" sharp. Because the back or spine of the blade is so thick, it makes it tough to cut things like cardboard.

Also - having researched the SnG model to death, you should know that it takes between 300-1000 openings / closings before a Strider folder is fully "broke-in". You may find that the knife is very stiff and the titanium framelock may bind tight at times during this period. Once you get past the break-in point it will be a smooth opener.

My SnG is definately in my "top five" list of edc knives, and has been there ever since the purchase. If you have the means, and are a serious knife enthusiast (or just sick like me) you should add one to your collection.;)

I have owned a few, all purchased new, and liked them all. My only complaint is that I wish that the clip was placed higher on the knife so that the knife rode deeper in my pocket.

The 3 I have owned were all purchased new in the last year and all had very strong detents, centered blades, solid lock up, and quality control no issues.

I think that if you are looking for someone to talk you out of the SnG I doubt you're going to see that happen. They are good knives!

Also, for what it's worth, I prefer the standard model to the GG and CC.

Pros
- I like the strong detent.
- Over-sized Pivot.
- High level of fit & Finish ( nicely ground &centered stonewashed blade, perfectly assembled)

My favorite attribute is the flame finished titanium frame.

Cons
- Pricey

I have different experience with SNG and Striders in general:

Pros: solid though fairly light, excellent lock-up
Cons: so and so finish, below-average detent, expensive, not a good cutter

That being said, I use my folders to CUT, so my foremost requirement is excellent cutting abilities. So Striders, ethics of Mickey Ray Burger aka Mick Strider aside, are not for me.
