I am in the market for an SNG and I have a quick question for all the owners out there. Do you prefer the flat grind blade or the 3/4 grind spear point blade. Is there a difference in performance when cutting between the 2 or is it just a personal preference thing?

Thanks

I don't own a strider, but for better slicing ability the full flat wil serve you better than the 3/4 grind, for overal strenght the 3/4 will be stronger since more thickness is kept along the blade.

For general use i'd go with the full flat grind instead of the 3/4.

I like the flat ground better personally, I have 3 SmF's.

The spines are the same thickness, the 3/4 grind is really just hollow ground leaving less metal in the blade overall than the full flat grind does.

I started a thread asking about the 3/4 grinds, not many responses. I just recently picked up a FFG SNG and it's the strongest flat grind I've seen on a folder of it's size.

The FFG will be stronger than the 3/4 grind, but the 3/4 grind looks like it might slice better. Many people complain about the shoulder thickness on the FFG SNG so I'm guessing that's Strider's reasoning behind the newer 3/4 hollow ground blades. The 3/4 ground blades are still thick and have the same blade stock, but they're less thick at the cutting edge. There's most likely not going to be a huge difference between the two grinds, because each one is good at one task and not so good at another. If you want the stronger blade then go for the full flat.

I have both style grinds, 3/4 on a RW-1 and flat on a SMF CC and have no preference either way. As long as they are sharp that's good enough for me.

Matador-

I have a RW-1, SmF CC and Standard SmF and tend to like the Flat grinds better, but that's personal preference.
