Do i drop close to 5 bills on an SNG GG? Or do I hold off and pick up something else. I guess im starting to think Striders are like a cpl hundred bones overpriced for what you get? Honestly think i might be happy with a large sebbie or somethin else!? Any input?

Forget comparing SnGs with Sebenza. They are completely different knives. Like comparing an A-10 and a F-16. Having said that a lot of the price you pay goes to perceived coolness for the Strider. For me at least I was willing. I have a SnG DGG CC and love it. I carry it more than any other I own. It is my"Go to war" blade. They are overpriced as far as workmanship and material (even though even that is still high) but somehow I do not regret paying what I did. They have quite the racket going. This is just my opinion.

Having owned a few striders, I'll say they're NOT 500 dollar knives. I bought my last SMF for 400 dollars and at a 400 dollar price point i'd say it was realistically 100 dollars overpriced. That said, i'd still buy another one for 400 or so, but I wouldn't pay 500, especially for an SNG. It's all up to what you're personally willing to pay. I greatly prefer my umnumzaan to striders however.

They never answer the phone and rarely respond to email so I avoid them now. I did like the SnG DGG I owned, but their lack of customer service turned me off.

This is one of those things that you have to decide if it's worth it to you. I owned (not all at the same time) an SnG, SMF, Large 21 Sebenza, and now an Umnumzaan.

Of those knives I still own the Umnumzaan and with it I just recently obtained a custom G-10 handle scale which gives it that strider feel but with CRK fit and finish. It's my Strumnumzaan :D Link in my signature if you want to see what I'm talking about...

What I liked about the SnG and SMF was that bullet proof feel and the multiple handle configurations. However, I did not like how wide the knife was when it sat in my pocket, the blade grind (flat ground) was too thick at the edge and made the knives slice poorly - it ended up feeling like a piece of an abrams tank that got sharpened on one end. Tough knives and if I could get an SMF again with money not being an option I would in a heartbeat.

What I like about Sebenzas and Umnumzaans is just about everything. No complaints whatsoever. The CRK knives FEEL like their weight in gold and having easy methods of taking them apart and cleaning is a plus in my book. I only felt the urge to obtain the G-10 scale for my Umnumzaan because I polished the sides of my Umnumzaan which left it looking nice but feeling slippery. So now I have the best of both worlds :)

You'll be happy with whichever knife you choose, my Umnumzaan with the additional G-10 scale was still less than $500 so choose carefully...

Depends on what you value. Try to handle one and see how you like it in hand. For that price, would rather get a custom. Don't get me wrong, some of them look cool (plain ones), especially the CC or GG. However, if a used one came along at sub 350; I might bite, but it better be the newest generation (highly unlikely).

Large Seb is good, take mine during camping and fishing- gets the job done. Not going to build a shelter with it, baton some wood or pry apart some bricks.

You can easily (kinda) find a used one for ~$300. I passed on one for $275 yesterday. I don't think I would pay $500 for one, since that's Aluminum SMF pricing, but $400 isn't bad. If you're not going to use it, might not be worth it, but if you're going to beat the snot out of it, I'd say it's worth it.

I just got my DGG SnG back from repair from Strider last week. It took 4 weeks but seemed like a lot longer. During the wait I had to scratch the itch so I bought another Sebenza, a small Insingo on impulse since that's all my favorite online shops had in stock. Would've bought another SnG but none in stock. Anyways I carried and used the Insingo for a week until my SnG came back. The Sebenza is great but for me it's no SnG. I would've easily spent $500 on another one if I could have found the handle and blade combo I wanted. Not saying they're worth the $500 but it's the knife that's grown on me and if that's what you really like/want there's no substitute.

I have a bunch of Sebenzas, Umnumzaans, and many other high end knives, I had a SNG DGG and the F&F was a bit off, loved the looks, however the thick edge and the more rustic feel turned me off. I prefer Chris Reeve designs, however, if you get your hands on one with better F&F and you like the design go for it, it's not the best value, but it will definitely perform, And knife buying and collecting is all about your personal connection, how it feels in your hand, how do you like the looks, so be honest and pick what you like best.

I have 3 SMFs and love them all. Are they worth the price tag? Only you can decide.

As for the customer service, they aren't the greatest. But, if you break your knife they WILL fix it no questions asked as long as it's not pimped. (altered).

Their customer service is actually something to be debated. If you break your knife, send them the knife via FED EX, a note about what happened and what you want done, and 16 dollars for return shipping (or a return label). About 3 weeks after sending your knife off, you'll get it back good as new. In that respect, their QC is great - but if you expect to talk to someone then you're out of luck.

I sent my SMF DGG off and got it back pretty quickly, and it locked up tighter than any other knife I've ever handled. Pretty amazing.

If nothing else, base your decision on the ergonomics. Does it look like you'll like the way the handle will feel in your hand? I would also keep in mind that Striders are thicker and even with the new hollow ground blades, it still won't cut like a Sebenza or Umnumzaan. I would like to point out that Strider's S30V knives are heat treated harder than CRK knives, so you might see slightly improved edge retention. Though that's a pretty big "if" considering the sheer difference in cutting ability between the two brands.

The only Strider knife I have is a fixed blade WP-C, which is 1/4" thick and cuts like a sharpened prybar, weighs like a sharpened prybar, and will likely be used as a sharpened prybar:D. Thankfully, the price was more reasonable at $175, and came with a decent kydex sheath and tek-lok clip(about $30 worth for kydex usually).

You might consider a ZT if you want a tough knife to beat on.

I think the ergos on the SnG and the SMF are superb. YMMV. I would also say that, in my opinion, Strider folders tend to be "fully priced." OTOH, when they were selling S110V SnG and SMF folders earlier this year, there was no premium for that very exotic steel, and those knives were a genuine bargain with custom-level fit and finish into the bargain.

Buy a used one on the exchange for $300 ish. I'd you love it, but have to have the gunner grip, sell if for $300 ish and buy the GG. If you don't love it, sell it and put the $300 in your pocket.

Both are great knives. Buy which and what appeals to you most. If it's price based on value, then go Cold Steel. They can hang with the best of them. And yes I do or have owned all three brands and used them with much vigor!

I would spend close to $500 on one, but only if it was some sort of limited or special configuration. For an SnG, $500 seems a bit high. I've had a couple and I was happy with them for the money. However, for 5 bones, you have a lot of options. At that price point, I would also recommend you check out Sniper Bladeworks...also titanium framelocks and some very cool designs. I just picked up a mini-LPC and love it. There are many cool customs to be had in that price range as well so I'd check around a bit and make sure you get what you want. $500 is a lot to spend on a knife and not be satisfied.

Yeah dont think ill be buying any more striders. Cant believe the bs with his military carreer! If you wanna call it that?! Wow! Sniper Bladeworks eh? Never heard of them? Good stuff? Think ill be searching for a custom! Any ideas wud be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

If I had money to burn I'd get one. As good as I've heard some say they are, I've heard too many people with complaints of one issue or another with these or their maker. For a hard use folder I think for now I'll spend my $$ on the soon to be released ZT0560.
