Folks... finally got my Strider Solution in BG42. My thoughts? Overall, a very nice and solid knife for the money. Nice chunk o' metal which is almost close to the quality of knives directly from Strider skunkworks. For the money, it is up there in quality comparable to any tactical.
In reference to recondoc1's recent thread and inquiries into his version in ATS-34, here are my observations upon initial assessment of my knife... I agree that the grind can be irregular. Mine had a bit of a uneven grind on the belly of the blade and was assymetrical at the back edge near the choil. The finish of the knife is definitely rougher than a typical Strider, including the feel of the G-10 scales. As a true field knife, this one fits the bill, though. No nonsense and built to perform.
I was bummed to get a non SOE sheath with the knife. With the first production run in BG42, I would think it would come with that kind of sheath, at least. The sheath doesn't have the redundancy of triple stitching and looks / feels like thin pack nylon rather than heavy duty cordura or canvas.
Of all the things about the knife, the sheath was the only real disappointment. The stiching was not absolutely solid and some parts of it already looked like it was starting to fray. Stitching didn't have the care and attention to detail for this type of knife. If it was used hard in the field, it wouldn't last very long at all.
For about $200, I would have pretty high expectations from such a production knife. Little niggly things like the grind being a bit off and a sheath that isn't quite up to intended performance is a downer.
My intention was to love the knife I was expecting to get. Because of some little things that needed to be addressed, it brought my expectations down to only really liking a knife I got.
From feedback requested by C.J. Buck on recondoc1's thread, I would say that the SOE sheath was a better example of what I would expect to be appropriate for this knife.
And that is my feedback... for what it's worth. Look forward to your replies. Thanks.
