I heard a rumor that the second run of the fixed blades will have BG-42 as opposed to the ATS-34 used for the first production run. If this is true, when will the BG versions be available? I was all set to order one but when I heard this rumor, I want to hold off on getting a BG one if there will be some. Any truth to this? Thanks for the help.

Wow that would be cool... Then I could finally get a BG42 Strider/Buck product without that horrendous "1st Production Run" scrawled across the blade :barf: :barf: :barf:

Ok,
Here is the confusing answer. :) We made "some" out of BG-42 and they were used as salesman's samples. We will not be able to finish the first production run of BG-42 until early next year, when we get more steel. In the meantime, we are in full production with ATS-34, so those should be at your local retailers now.
I hope this helps.

Joe - thanks for the help. So in essense you are saying that the BG versions are definite but the ETA is TBA :) I can wait! Thanks again....

Thanks for the information on the "Solution" Mr. Houser. I am new to the forum, but not new to Buck or Strider knives. Could you answer a couple of more questions please. What hardness is the ATS-34 hardened to? Will that be the same for the BG-42 also? Did Paul Boss (sorry if mispelled) oversee or actually do the hardening?
Thanks for your feedback.

Tony - welcome to the forums! From what I understand, Paul Bos oversees all aspects of the HT process for all the Buck Striders. Not sure what Rc that he takes them to but I am willing to venture a guess that it's around the 55-58 Rc range, maybe 59.

Nonbox - no word yet from Buck on whether a tanto version is in the cards.

Thanks for the info and the welcome Dexter. I was hoping the hardness would be in the 59 to 60 range. I don't mind spending time to sharpen a knife, but I want it to hold it's edge through field dressing a deer or bear. Take care. Tony

Tony - I don't think you have any worries at all with Bos' HT on the Strider Bucks. These knives have the best HT I have experienced on a factory knife, bar none!! :) Couple that with Buck's Edge 2000 sharpening process, you'll have a knife that really holds an edge yet is easy to resharpen yourself.

They made a fixed blade?!?! I just checked the Buck site and didn't see anything about it. Any pics or sites I can see them at?

I have checked 1sks and it is not on their site yet. Does TAD only sell it? When will the other online retailers have it for sale?

Guys - relax :) I don't think all dealers have the Solutions just yet. I spoke with Howard @ KCI last Thursday and he said he has a shipment en route. TAD maybe taking pre-orders on them. I'm sure 1SKS will have them. It's just a matter of playing that dreaded waiting game again!

there are pics further down on the page in a post by mich strider, and also in the general blade discussion forum posted by me.

Dexter, TAD has/had them in stock last week. I ordered one Thursday morning and according to the tracking it should be in my hands tomorrow morning unless the brown messenger gets lost.
