I am interested in getting a Strider AR folder, and my only concern is the tigerstripe finish. What exactly is this, and will it hold up to use? I love the look of the finished knife with them, and would like to know how well they would hold up to the use a knife of this type is likely to get. Thanks in advance.

If you search the archives in the Strider forum, there is an explanation of this finish. If it is seriously degraded with use, I believe that the finish can be re-applied.

The Tiger Stripe finish on Strider knives isn't applied per se, but it's more like selectively bead blasting the blade. When the knife comes back from heat treat, it is dark in color, an thus when bead blasted, the dark color is removed, and the steel turns a flat grey color. It isn't a coating of any kind, so there is no way to re apply it. It is just not completely bead blasted to give it a Striped look. Hope that helps. Also, good luck finding an AR folder. I've owned 2, and would love to get another. They are Huge but awsome knives. You'll love it.

See this post for a good look at the Tiger Stripes on a strider blade. Notice on the dark sections, you can see the grind marks, it's still bare steel, as is the Gray areas, just that it's been bead blasted there
