i've been waiting for my dealer to get the 2002 commanders but i just stumbled on striders ar. now i'm stuck!

i've handled a few emersons and haven't been too impressed with the finish or smoothness of the operation. but i am drawn to the handle design, recurve and o.d. handles.

are the strider ar's worth the price? how is the fit and finish? larger than the commander?

if i go strider where can i get them/ar or gb?

any comments/suggestions welcomed. i might have to get both:D however, the wifey will disagree:(

I have a Strider BT, and I've read lots about their folders. Just get it. You will NOT be sorry. In fact, you will be so happy with your purchase, that you will just give the Strider Guys direct access to your account to fund your new purchases! (Stolen quote ;) ) Yes, it is much larger than the commander.

From what I've read, the Strider folders are every bit as strong as a fixed blade. Just do it. Strider.

HEY! I'm copyrighting that!!! "Just do it. Strider." :D:D:D:D

A few stolen pics should illustrate the point (sorry, don't know the sources)

Let me add my two cents to this one.

I own several Commanders including an illusive 98 Commander. I recently picked up a Strider GB and have become a true strider fan. Let me tell you, my 98 Commander is far superior to my other Commanders both in appearance, functionality, and operation. It has a smooth as silk opening and the thickness of the handle on a 98, in my opinion is much more hand filling than any of the currently produced models.

But in comparing my GB to my 98 is like comparing golf balls to bowling balls. The GB is just a Monster of a knife in every aspect. The words myself and many strider owners use to describe our knives is 'BAD-ASS.' My GB locks up solidly with authority and fills my hand much better than my 98 Commander. When I first had a chance to handle a Strider folder I thought they were way to thick handled to be carried easily. But after carrying it around in slacks, shorts, jeans, sweats for the past week I have found that is is very comfortable to carry.

Bottom line, both EKI's Commander and Strider's AR/GB are great knives and you can't go wrong with either. If I was only able to purchase one of either knife (other than a Satin 98 Commander) it would have to be a GB. Just wanted to add my two cents.

PS. the pics posted above I believe are Eich1911's and edmoses's.

i own a non 98 commander, the ergo's of this knife are increidible and the wave is very useful and really cool, but i have seen better lock up and smoothness from CRKT.

my impression of the AR is that it is actually worth that price tag.

I do not own a Commander but I did handle my buddie's a few times. At the risk of raising the ire of the Usual Supects I have to say that I just don't see what the fuss is about. The Commander felt way too thin to me, not very comfortable in the hand. And the wave feature does nothing for me. But, that's just me. I bet the new framelock version is very nice.

The AR is a friggin tank in every way. Biggest Bad Ass knife I've ever owned. It hasn't left my pocket for any appreciable amount of time since I got it more than a month ago. I love it and am going to have to get a GB eventually.

YMMV but i've not been able to find an Emerson w/ decent lockup. i'd have to agree that my CRKT Bwana has better lockup.

now the AR....wow, the only thing i can compare it to is the slide on a full size 1911 slamming forward on a new clip, satisfying and rock solid. and it's not *that* big....

I have both a '98 Commander and Strider AR. Had a 2000 Commander and gave it away as a gift. The '98 sits in a display case. The AR is always in my pocket. Nothing quite like the AR. I have a bigger folder than the AR so it not just the size that I prefer. The AR has a very nice grip, well balanced and beefy. Plus the Strider guarantee is too hard to beat.

My '98 commander is lighter, faster opening (not by much)and quicker in the hand. Both are good knives, I just prefer the AR as my EDC.

I have an AR. I recommend it highly.

Check the Strider forum. Shelby aka Aluminum Overcast has some fantastic photos there.
