What to buy for a guys first Custom Folder? I am interested in the results of this thread.

It helps to post a little more info on what your intended uses are going to be.

Both good knives but very different design executions and philosophies.

Strider and CRK sell to different segments of the market. None of their regular knives are customs, though, although Chris Reeve and the Strider guys have done some custom work.

Like BOK says, we need more information on what you're looking for in a knife, not what brand someone thinks is "best".

the sriders are big heavy duty knives the sebs are smaller heavy duty knives, depends on how big ya wanna carry edc, or what it is ya want in a knife,

Flog it!

to quote OJ [the serial killer, not the drink]

"beating a dead horse"

I personally dont think of either as "custom"..production/ high end, yes!

theres two different schools of thought on this.

both are worth every penny to me.

try search though, if you want to see real long threads on this same topic!

* not bashing passing on friendly advice!

I would suggest doing a search for sebenza and strider and read these threads. Both are well built great knives and have a huge and loyal following.

CRK: Too many awards for excellence to ignore.

The only questions left: Where to buy retailers or source? Double thumb studs or dedicated one-hand? Decorated or plain? Classic or regular? Can I really wait 8-12 weeks? Just how far is it to Boise?

Wish I could handle examples of all variables b4 I fax in my order. Never even seen one outside of www pics.

best,

or

retailers= no wait.

CRK wait

always follow this general rule when it comes to Sebenzas...

Large/ Classic/ Dual Thumblug

inlays/ graphics up to you, friend.

Uh, Ron, are you actually continuing this thread even after you know the poster was banned for it? :) That's committment.

well, i think newbies/ people asking questions need answers?!

good to 'see' you!;)

Ming was just Vinny trying to sneak back in again. We ban him again every time but he's a slow learner. There's no reason not to continue the thread if you want to.

LaBella, who said, "always follow this general rule when it comes to Sebenzas...

I agree with you on the size, large.

Why would anyone pay the extra $35 for dual thumb lugs, unless they were ambidextrous? Isn't this just more snag on the pocket potential during the draw? Doesn't the necessary scale carving, to allow for the extra lug, break up the simple pure lines of the Sebenza?

I see such little difference between the classic and the regular models I think why not go with the most modern, aka most improved by the master, design (the regular). Is there a utilitarian or artistic reason(s) for the classic or is it simple tradition?

Thank you kindly for your opinions.

All the best,

oregon (who thinks that sometimes the purchasing decision is an outstanding opportunity for fun)

I always go for the extra lug. Yes, ambidextrous although tilt toward left handed. I like to know I can open the knife with any hand and in either forward or ring finger opening.
