Strider vs Custom

I ordered a Strider SNG with Gunner grips today and I got word from David Mosier that my Defiant folder will be ready in a week.

I am very interested to see which knife I like better. I have heard so much about Strider I had to try one and I also wanted to experience a custom folder, hence the DM knife.

Both are S30V so a comparison should be valid. I will follow up with a comparison in a couple of weeks, unless of course my wife finds out and I am murdered in my sleep.

I'm interested to hear your comparison. I would expect both knives to perform about the same, if they have similar blade characteristics.

Can you leave a note for your wife requesting that if she kills you, she post how she did it on these forums? I'd be interested in those results if I can't see your review.

Serious though, congrats on the scores. Looking forward to the review.

How do they compare price wise?

The custom is $50 more but that is just because I had it pimped up a bit. Stock it is the exact same price.

I just can't wait. I have no preconceived idea about which should be better so i think I am objective. We'll see.

I have a stonewashed SnG , but after seeing some pictures of the Defiant I'd say the Defiant looks to be the winner.

Let us know what you think after you get them.... now I can't get the Defiant out of my mind :)

Deifiant does look cool. I really dont consider the Strider folders to be custom. I do think they are a bit pricey for what you get even thought I have two SNG's. The only other knife I have seen that has the same features of the Strider is the Hinderer XM-18, and I have one on order.

I don't have a strider's folder but I do have fixed blades from both makers. David Mosier is a great knive. The fit and finish is awesome. the blade is very sharp. It's the sharpest of all knives in my collection. I like my strider but I think David Mosier has better fit and finish.

Depends on what qualities you're looking at, Strider's probably a little tougher, but sacrifices minimal cutting ability. It's really hard to say what's a better knife unless you have a hard time telling the two apart physically. What I mean to say is unless they look the same they really aren't, meaning they weren't designed with the same precise function in mind. Strider is a rough use, ugly mother (even though I think they look good) the custom Defiant is more dressed up and will probably be more babied.

I've owned 4 Strider folders and never had a prob with any of them. There probably the most custom-like prod. knives out there, being a 3 man shop.

I have customs that have better fit and finish than my SNG's but the design is spot on for my hand and use.
