i cant seem to find the strider warranty anywhere. ive heard its basically the same as rat cutlery, "If you screw it up, break it, or cut it in two with a cutting torch, send it back and we'll replace it". is this ture?

on their website, there is a section with frequently asked questions. this should provide the info you are looking for.

if not, give the shop a call. ive called a few times and they have always been very helpful.

I believe that their policy is something along the lines of "We'll fix any of our knives, regardless of how they are damaged, but we won't fix everything for free"

That said, I have never heard of anybody having problems getting warranty work done on a Strider.

I think the charges come from knives that were modded or taken apart and put together wrong.

They do not warranty against abuse they said. I heard guys were doing destruction tests and trying to get replacements so they now say they don't warranty it if you abuse it. I never got their definition of abuse though.

Why would someone cut there knife in half with a torch?

Strider warranty from the unofficialy fact page, per Mick Strider

We are forced through both Liability and Monetary reasons to make some changes to our repair policy.

Liability: We are responsible for the condition of EVERY knife that LEAVES our shop, regardless of what has been done by YOU. When the knife leaves here, and we have worked on it, we are responsible for it again. Unfortunately, we can’t afford the liability of YOUR work.

Monetarily: We currently spend an average of 20 man hours a week on repairs that are not caused by “use”. These repairs are due to “Pimping, Tweaking and Fumbling.” We get knives that you wouldn’t believe….with notes that are so incredible that I wish I could start a thread and post them for you…..
“I’m not sure what's wrong….the knife is brand new I never even took it out of the package”…. That’s odd… because we always put the screws in the correct side of the knife… and we don’t cover everything in red loctite…

This has nothing to do with Pimpers, Tweakers or Fumblers… We’re fine with all that. Unfortunately, much like your auto warrantee wouldn’t cover a home made fuel injection system on your new Corvette, we can’t assume liability for your home made knife changes.

Therefore:

Any knife sent in for sharpen/repair; will be returned to Strider Knives Company Standards.

What does this mean on your end?

If you have not Pimped, Tweaked, or Fumbled with your knife….
Not a damn thing. Your knife will be returned to its original condition and sent home for the cost of shipping.

If you HAVE Pimped, Tweaked or Fumbled with your knife…
Your knife will be returned to its original condition, and you will be charged for parts and labor. If we are able to salvage your “parts” we will return them with your reconditioned knife.

Strider no longer does cosmetic repairs. This includes but is not limited to blade refinishing or scratch removal.

Strider Knives Inc. Statement of Warrantee:

If it's broken, we'll fix it.
If it's dull, we'll sharpen it.
If it's old and tired, we'll refurbish it.
Some things have a fee, some don't.
Ask around ... we won't do you wrong.

I think there are a lot of companies with really good warranties, but the only people that can match the Rat warranty is probably Busse or Busse-kin. They replace the knife no matter what you do, it doesn't matter if it's considered abuse or not.

I'm not aware of anyone other then Rat or Busse / Busse-kin with that strong of a warranty.

As I hear, Busse / kin knives carry a warranty against any kind of unintentional damage. Rat will replace even if you do it on purpose.

Though Busse did replace that guys BM when he chopped it through a chain. I think they termed it "tough love."

I remember that one. LOL :D

When I field tested my Tank Buster I beat the heck out of it including driving it into a stump and smacking it sideways with my baton very hard. I have broken other knives doing this before.

It's one tough knife to say the least. :D

They say that if it has any blood on it, human or animal, they won't touch it and will charge you a fee and send it right back. Common sense really, but some people need to be notified.
