Strider With Side-To-Side Play?

I have a Strider SnG that I just picked up recently, my first Strider ever. I like the design and the way it's built, but I am surprised to see that it has side-to-side play in the blade. The lockup is very good, but anchoring the knife via both sides of the pivot assembly and rocking the blade back and forth yields some amount of play, unlike that I've ever seen in a quality folder.

My question(s) are: First, is this to be expected in a Strider? I expected no play in the blade. Second, is this something Strider's warranty support would take care of? I have no problem with sending the knife in to be adjusted/tuned up, if that's what it needs. This is a used knife, and it has seen some use but is in good shape. I wanted it as a workhorse, EDC knife, and for that purpose it's just fine. I'd just like to see it in tip-top working order. Anybody have any pointers/advice? Thanks!

Actually, I already tried that. After reading the how-to in the Strider FAQ (linked to from the striderknives.com website), I tried to do just exactly that, and there was no tightening it -- it was already very tight. I'm wondering if there's some sort of damage or compression of the washers on either side of the blade. I'm going to call Strider and ask whether this is expected behavior, or if they can tune this play out of the knife if I send it in. Thanks for the input!

I had a similar problem with a Strider SMF.

The diameter of the 'thumb studs' on the blade is critical to proper lockup. If tightening the pivot doesn't remove side-play, at least one of the studs is too small for proper lockup.

If the thumbstuds are the proper size, the blade cannot wobble since the stud is tight against the liner.

The knife should go back to Strider for repair. This is a fairly common Strider problem.

Send it back to Strider, don't want to take a chance on voiding the warranty.

I had a little vertical play in a prior SNG I had, sent it back to Strider, and they enlarged the stop pin.

No knife should have play either vert/horiz, if it does you will never trust it..

My current SNG has no play, I have batonned it, thrown it, etc - so just wanted to re-affirm, they are not all lemons.

If you buy another - get it from Plaza cutlery, they will hand pic it for you out of their stock, and if you have certain areas you want double checked they will do so for you..

No, it's not expected in a Stider. And Yes, send it back and they will make it like new for yea... :)

Never had a problem with blade play and I've betten my Strider's like Barrabas has.
