Did Strider offer the WP drop point in different blade thickness options? I am looking for one and I am confused by the ads about the blades. Thanks!

From what I can tell the different blade styles clip point, spear point tango ect determine the thickness. I looked at getting one for a while but then decided to go with the MFS instead. I have big hands and the dealer I bought from said the WP would be very small in hand, just something to take into account. I couldn't be happier with the MFS it's a great little blade that I carry frequently.

Hope this helps

Actually they should all be 1/4" thick at the thickest point. The different grinds only change where that point will be. I would have preferred the MFS simply because the flat ground blade would slice better and have better utility use than the WP series.

Thats great, thanks for posting those pics, very helpful. I will also look a little more into the MFS. I am Law enforcement and am going to replace my BM Nimravus. Just want a new toy basically. I put it on my thigh holster in front of my gun. A sheathed fixed blade fits nicely there, but is it starts getting longer than 10" overall it starts getting a bit big to mount there.

God the clip points are good looking. Strider makes such a beautiful knife. just sayin...:D

I thought so too when I first bought mine. Then I sharpened it and tried using it and found that it was thick as a brick and cuts like one too. 1/4" blade thickness is hard to pull off with that kind of grind and I find myself wishing I got the MFS instead.

My WP (spear point) and MFS are both 3/16". The WP is easily the purdier of the two. There is NO comparison in use though. The MFS easily outshines the WP. When I say "use," think of anything you may do with a knife. No comparison. The WP leaves MUCH to be desired (except being so damn purdy) and the MFS is outstanding.

I had a full flat grind SA in 1/4" BG42 around 2001. That was a good knife, but, again, the MFS is really stout and, all in all, is my fav fixed blade to date!

That is an unfair comparison. The WP is not intended for the use you expected of it. Judging a knife with unreasonable criteria will always lead to disappointment. The MFS is a much better cutter because it's a full flat grind. The WP, like most of the Strider line, is full thickness for about half the width of the blade. No big surprise that it doesn't cut as well.

To the OP; If I were in the market for a knife to mount on a holster I'd be looking for one of the 3/16" 3V DB's that Monkey Edge had made a while back. It's not a FFG like the MFS, but my 1/4" S30V was quite serviceable and even capable of making feather sticks if I was careful. I wouldn't expect it to make paper thin slices of carrot, but it did all I expected it to.

Take a look at the MSS as well.

It's probably as close as you will ever see to a Strider Bushcraft knife ;)
