I just found out about the little strider folder and am interested in hearing from folks who have them and how they compare to the small sebenza. I had a large sebe for awhile so I am familiar with the design and construction between thesse two models.

Cutting comparisons, finish, comfort of use and carry etc.

Thanks

Anyone? Someone out there has to have some thoughts on the PT versus the small sebenza, even if it is to point out what a dumb idea this comparison is.

I posted these on another forum:

I ended up selling the Sebbie and keeping the PT. However, a local maker, Eddie Baca, modified it for me by replacing the G10 slab with titanium and smoothing up the action to Sebbie like smoothness. He also put an awesome damasteel backspacer in.

Yikes -- I had pics up of a SNG mod here, I have now replaced with the PT mod shots. The first two mod pictures are by Eddie Baca.

Wow Edgetrip, That's really nice. Awesome Modifications. .
I just ordered a small Seb, What made you go for the PT?

Very nice pics dizos, Which is your preference - Small Seb or PT?
I had no Idea that Stider made a folder that small, or I would have definitely given it a consideration. Now I have to figure out how to get one of those too.. ;)

Is there a link for this PT? Can't seem to find a site for it..
And yes, I swear to shut up for a while. It's just sweet.

when you say smoothed up the action to sebenza like...how far from smooth was it when u got it. Also how was the fit and finish of the strider when it was new? I want to get one but im very picky when i spend 300.00 and i expect perfection.

If you want perfection "out of the box", don't buy a Strider. They are a little rough and require some breaking in. The PT is no different. (Please no flame wars, seriously, please).

I purchased the PT to fill the roll of a small dress pocket carry folder. I wasn't sure when I purchased it that I would replace my small Sebbie (I could only afford one of them). Fact is, for me, I prefer the ergo's of the PT. It just locks into my hand. Additionally, I just prefer the PT/SNG profile visually. I had it modified because I like the additional weight of the titanium slab and I wanted instant gratification by getting it polished for a smooth action. I'm sure it would have smoothed out on its own with enough openings/closings (as it was with my SNG). I have ended up EDC'ing it.

I really don't know how to ultimately evaluate how well it cuts compaired to the Sebbie since I have only used it for minor tasks for which they are equals. It is shaving sharp and slices very well (flat grind).

Great knife dizos. If they came like that I'd get one, but picking a small edc I'd go with the Sebenza. IMHO the stock sebenza is better, I'm not a big fan of the new style clips on Striders either. I've a small 9 year old Sebenza still going strong.

Thanks for the link. Really appreciate it.

I would love to hear more about the comparison between Strider and CR folders.

How much did it cost to add the Titanium slabs, and do the mod?

It's not really a question of which is better, it is more a matter of taste. They are both semi-custom from amazing blade makers. They are both titanium framelocks with S30v (unless you have an older BG42 Sebbie) blades. The stock PT is lighter than the a Sebbie because of the G10 scale. The difference in blade geometry is, for me, subtle for the range of tasks I have applied them to. I personally like a lot of belly on a blade, but that comes from skinning game, which I probably won't do with the PT (however I am certain it would be up to the task). Both the PT and the Sebbie are practically indestructable, and I am sure that the PT would also hold up to 9 years and more of use.

I'm sure I will someday own a Sebenza again, I have gone through a few and even lost one , but if I can only have one it will be a Strider.

There are a TON of threads on this. Do a search and kick back to hours of entertainment! ;)

I actually had to throw money at him because he is very generous and was doing this more as a favor than as a job.

Yes he is. He's done mod work for me too. I also have an Eddie Baca Custom and it's smoother than any of my Sebenzas. He really polishes the action.

Dizos, cool mod! According to the Strider info the folders have one G-10 scale to stiffen the knife against flexing. I have an all-Ti Pinnacle and I don't think it's going to flex any day soon, so I'm wondering if you've noticed any problems in terms of how solid the knife feels now that both scales are titanium?

The flex issue is at a level of use that I have never put a folder under. I imagine if I was using a folder in combat I would worry about the lock failing due to flex (stab and twist), but it is simply not an issue for me. As you pointed out, titanium slabs are extemely strong.
