I am looking for some strike anywhere kitchen matches, but all anyone seems to carry are the "strike on box only" type. Dose anyone know of a national chain store that has them? Thanks.

I don't know if there is a Galyan's Sporting Goods Store near you, but they carry both the large ones and the smaller 32-count boxes. These are red w/white tip matches.

Might want to try a local True Value store. I've seen posts that say they often carry them.

Good luck,
Mike

If there is a Rural King farm store near you, they carry the blue tipped "Ohio" brand of strike anywheres.

HEY GUYS SAFEWAY HAS A WHOLE SHELF OF THEM.... JUST GET A PLANE TICKET AND FLY UP TO THE REAL WORLD ....YOU CAN WALK THE STREETS WITH A GUN ON...LIKE AMERICA USED TO BE...

It's probably a local legal issue rather than an inventory problem. Strike anywhere matches are illegal in some areas/ [states.] If they are not on the grocery store shelf right next to the strike on box variety, you have a problem. Some governments see them as a safety issue. Now don't that make you feel safe?

I believe that the HEB grocery stores have them.
This is a chain headquartered in San Antonion and
prevalent thru-out southern half of Texas. Not
sure where you're located.
Whenever I find them I buy way more than I think
I'll need in the next year or two. They can be
that hard to find.
Will check this weekend and post again Monday.

Ace Hardware stores carry them. I bought 6 big boxes (500ct) of Blue Diamond Strike Anywhere matches for 0.85$ each and filled Penguin mint tins with them and dry cotton balls for tender and to prevent rattle damage.

Check your telephone book, call the store, go pick up your matches.

Believe me, I ran into the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Finally after drugstores and grocery stores I found them at Ace Hardware. How bizzare.

Thanks to all for your replys. I have an ACE hardware not too far away, I'll have to check there this week end.

it really depends on where you are, if they will be available locally or not. I live in NY and they are not available locally. Everyone from NY that I have shown them too or been seen using has never seen them before.

DiamondBrand will ship to ANY state in the us, there is a catch. The case of matches costs $35, but they have to charge you a "hazardous handling" fee which brigns the cost to over $50. Still not a bad deal. I bought and was selling them here and on e-bay in the late nineties/2000 I believe. WHen I sent them to buyers I didnt tell them that there was SAW mathces inside, and this is supposedly a MAJOR FEDERAL OFFENSE and for good reason. BUt who is gonna pay $2.50 each for 4 boxes of matches, then spend double their value for shipping alone?

If you do locate some I need more!!!! I would buy at least 5 boxes for my personal use. If anyone can get them locally and is willing to ship them to me via usps (just put a fakie return address on it) I would pay a small premium. Thanks again.

A note of caution about shipping strike anywhere matches for pay. This is a Depatement of Transportation regulated activity and if you do not ship them within the regulations you are subject to some serious fines. DOT is one of the few government agencies that will fine individuals for failure to comply with their regulations and do so heavily. On the other hand, if you do not charge for them you may not be subject to the regs. If you do decide to send strike anywhere matches to a friend as a present be sure that you package them so that they do not represent a fire hazard to the carrier.

I spoke with a nice lady form Diamond Brands today, at 1-800-777-7942 (thanks Rahershey for posting the number), and she told me that no one in my area sells the strike any wheres due to some hazardous materials shipping fee. So I guess I will pick some up next time I am on the road (I'll call Diamond Brands to find out who if anyone has them where I'm going).
Jameson, I asked if SAWs are restricted on LI, the answer I got was no, but no one sells them due to the hazardous materials fee.

Found Them! I checked ACE (thanks to hso and BoyNhisDog for the tip), and they had them 99 cents for 250. Thanks all for your replies
