Strip Izula

Once upon a time, when ESEE was RAT I bought an Izula, well they sent me the wrong color, so I bought some Jasco Paint STRIPPER and took that OD green off my Izula. That exposed a sandlasted finish, which looked nice but rusted nearly instantly. So after a year of having a half assed convex edge, a semi satin hand rubbed finish, it now sports a hand rubbed scoth brite finish with a hot vinegar patina, and a regular wilderness shave ready V-grind.

My only gripe with this knife now is that the trailed off edge towards the handle is cr@p in my opinion, it's damned hard to get out and keep the edge looking good (ok so it doesn't matter if you actually plan on using the damn thing) BUT it really is annoying, and anyone (like me) that is a real man (like me) and uses flat stones to sharpen may find that really annoying when trying to sharpen.

Ok well here's a crappy pic to keep you all happy.

Nice job restoring that puppy. I remember what it looked like a few days after the original strip and convex.

Looking good!
Are you referring to the ricasso area? I too have a little trouble sharpening that spot
properly...I'm a bit of a neophyte when it comes to edge tech, is there a specific reason
for the small flare? I've seen pics of Izulas with that part reshaped to match the rest of the edge - personal preference, or what am I missing?

I tried my darndest to get it straight with the edge before the belly, but be darned if I could. I believe it has to do with the particular grinding rig that Rowen uses. I believe it pulls away at that point, or plunges. Depending on if it draws handle to tip, or tip to handle.

Stripping and puttin' a patina on my Izzy this weekend. All these pictures I see of them are making me wanna do it even more.

Really considering stripping my Izula and throwing a patina on it. More threads like this and ya'll just might push me to do it.

Put a patina on that one and be sure to post pictures. ;)

Looking at the pic and mine, making the half round ricasso area? bigger, deeper, or toward the edge with a round file or dremel would fix it.
