Nice work!
I'll be prowling the beaches in Montauk soon.
I hope I do half as well.
:D

Nice catch! I only miss NJ this time of year, Fall Bass Season!!

My buddy and I fished Sandy Hook and always did well, we were wire line trollers and had some amazing days.

Wire line trolling :D
Umbrellas or bunker spoons?
I fished a couple of times, in the rips off the Montauk lighthouse, wire line trolling bucktails.
You had to pump the rod like rowing a boat, the blues would hit on the forward stroke and the bass would hit on the fall back.
Good times.
BTW, nice fish and NICE BOAT!

I fished mostly umbrellas but started off years ago with the spoons. My friend still has the original 10 ft Bunker Spoon rods I built back in the '70s. The invention of the plastic shads along with comeback of the bass are a perfect combo.

Montauk is such a great place. The surf fishermen there are nuts, climbing out on the rocks. I've bucktailed with wire and it is a lot of work. But when they hit... Whoopee!

Hope you have a great season.

Just got back yesterday.
It was a tough pick on the beach. The couple of bass that I did catch were short.
One was close to legal, but I don't carry a tape. If they need to be measured they are too small for me.
I did bring home some blues for dinner

All on 1 oz white bucktails...wouldn't hit anything else.
Seems like the surf season is just waiting to bust loose...bait everywhere and the fish are scattered.
All in all a good trip.
With fantastic sunsets, as always, out at "The End"

I LOVE striped bass fishing and make an annual trip to Cape Cod to fish them off the beaches with a fly rod. This year will be my 14th consecutive trip and I have yet to eat one of them! Maybe I'll knock the sides off one this year and fry it up..... :)

Stay sharp,

Almost forgot some knife-related content: Inside my chest pack is a Gerber Magnum LST Jr. that I've had for many years. It lives in that chest pack and has remained rust-free in all its seasons of saltwater use. It's very lightweight and thin.
