Finished this up last friday and am finally getting around to posting it. Blade is 2 3/4 in long and made of D-2. Blade has been satin finished and then etched in ferric chloride. Titanium thumbstud and 3/32 titanium liners which have been anodized blue and jeweled. Outline of a shark on the "A" side of the knife. Overall length is 6 5/8 in. This is a framelock.
Thanks for looking,
Chuck

That looks great!!. can you give me some info on the way you etch the blade to get the stripe effect. Paul

Paul,
It is easy to do. I brought the blad eup to a nice satin finish, around 400 grit. Then I painted the stripes on with fingernail polish and then dunked it in ferric chloride for a few seconds. You can etch it longer for a deeper color. Make sure you paint around your pivot hole and where the ball detent travels otherwise the knife won't be as smooth opening and closing.

Sounds easy enough. I assume acetone to clean up. The other question is how do you get rid of the black smudge from the FC. I can clean and clean and still get smudge.??? Paul

Paul,
D-2 is as close to being stainless as you can get without actually being stainless. It has a high chromium content, so when you etch it you don't get any black smudge like you do with damascus or high carbon steels. Use a test piece and try it out. You will like the results.
