Striping the Bk 2 And Bluing the Blade.

I am thinking about modding my Bk 2. What I want to do is etch the logo and then strip the blade and blue it and then buy the micarta scale and dye those black, I just can't decide if I want to completely strip the knife or if I want to just strip the blade, Also does striping the blade really void the warranty ? P.S. if I do this I'll post some pics when I am done.

So I striped the finish on the Bk2 today and applied the bluing but it didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped, I wanted to get a really deep dark blue out of it and instead i got a shiny polished blue look, also after I had striped the finish I noticed that there was some pitting on the blade, I have always oiled my knife and kept it clean when I am not using it I don't know what exactly caused this.

those little pits are quite normal, not really an issue. If you don't like the blueing - it also interacts with food so be careful there - you can search for the "clich" process, although this process "scars" the blade, it looks really good on the flats. It's what I did to my 2.

Bluing metal will simply turn it black.
The amount of polish or lack of polish will determine the luster of how dull or shiny it is.
Think of a nice shiny Browning or Weatherby rifle, the metal has been buffed to an almost mirror shine before the bluing process. Now take a Remington express shotgun, the steel has been shot peened (an aggressive sand blast) before the bluing process.
I must say, for cold blue your blade looks quite even which is not easy to do.

Here's mine. I stripped it. Polished out some of the smaller pits which are common on this blade. Forced a Tiger Stripe patina and added Micarta handles. Changed out the hardware to stainless steel. Added my own Hale Storm Custom Kydex

I have a brand new BK15 that I've been wanting to strip & convex. I was going to cold blue the blade after stripping. This is the first I've heard that this can be bad if the knife is used for food prep. Is this true? Will bluing a blade make it unsuitable for food use? Thanks!

Correct,

Bluing the blade will make it unsuitable for food prep. Try forcing a patina with an acidic food (grapefruit, mustard, hot sauces, ect) . It always looks cool afterwards. There are numerous great photo's on here where people have done this and created really great looking blades.

Thanks TBL. I'll probably strip it and see how it looks. I dont know if I'm going to try to force a patina or just let it develop with use.
