Stripped BK5 and modified scales

Hi everyone, finally got some time to strip my BK5, and after that I decided to mod the scales too. I used a soldering iron and went over both scales thinking it wouldn't take too long. Well, it turns out it takes about 45 minutes to do each scale! It is worth the time, because the grip is improved and this is good for me as I am now using the 5 as my go-to kitchen knife. Even with soaking wet hands the knife won't slip.

I have also seen the benefit of the stripped blade. I was cutting up some turkey breast last night and there was no effort needed at all, there is less drag in the slicing action. Also, it is hard to tell from the photos but there is a nice patina starting! So if anyone is sitting on the fence about stripping their 5, my opinion is to go for it, you will not regret it!

And now, a few pics!

Nice. Stripping the blade makes all the difference in the world with the 5. Your stippling job looks heavy and aggressive. Well done.

I'm hearing you on the length of time it takes to get the handles right. I always do a really fine stippling on my scales, so each scale takes an hour and a half to finish. I can usually go through about four episodes of a TV show on Netflix to get through one set of scales. Yeesh. But the results are always worth it.

Very nice looking BK5! I keep wanting to do some stippling on some of my scales, I'm just not sure how I want it done...
