the finish beneath the coating will vary depending. It might be dimple free if it is a full height grind. It might have dimples on the flats where there was no grinding. Look for the competition finish SAR, HR, and JH's recently sold at blade.
Here's a stripped Hell Razor. I just stripped my AD this weekend, no pics yet because I want to clean up the spine and then give it a good sharpening. I love the black micarta with a stripped blade, a simple look now seen on the competition finish blades.
I have stripped many Busses and noticed some models finish can differ.
This SJ in the picture had a full satin finish underneath its old tan coating. It looks like a completely different blade now..
I have been informed that finding a full factory satin finish under the coating is pretty rare.
My skelly warden had more of a double cut finish after I stripped it.
have not stripped many custom shops but have noticed the craftsmanship and attention to detail is better than an average CG.
Yea it does, cleaning up the spine for me is using sandpaper to remove any scratches in the metal and getting an absolutely smooth feel between the tang and handle slabs. The AD that I stripped this weekend has a nice wave pattern in the tang that I will leave, now that the slabs are smooth at the tang, can't feel where micarta ends and metal begins. Hope this helps.
