Anyone else strip the clip screws on their 740 or 745? I have a 745 that the clip keeps coming loose on. So I took the clip off and put Loctite on the screws and put it back on the knife. Upon doing so the liner stripped out. This has happened to me twice now on two different 745's. It's was the left screw both times too, and I wasn't going crazy tightening them. I just used the Benchmade Blue Box tool kit to do it. So now I'm sending a second 745 back to BM to get fixed.

Anyone else have this problem, or have suggestions?

I've looked at, handled, and handed back two mini Dejavoos. It's such a bitchin LOOKING knife. But it seems light and flimsy in many respects.
I have not used one.

Yeah, I will be getting rid of both of mine. I cannot stand them anymore. Plastic backspacer, stripped screws, and on the last one I sent back the liner engaged almost all the way across right out of the box.

I will not be buying another BM.

I love my 740 ive taken it apart many times and have had no issues whatsoever. my only complaint is the cheap looking plastic baskspacer that im looking into ways to change to standoffs

I've also taken my 740 apart and reassembled it with no problems. Maybe you're just tightening it too hard. If you always tighten the right screw down first, then it sounds like you're tightening them both too hard if the left screw is always stripping out. The clip is probably exerting outward force on the second screw that you screw in, which may explain why it was the left screw both times.

My only complaint, like so many others', is the cheap backspacer.

ehhh, You very well could be right. I may have just tightened them too tight. In the past I have had a tendency to over tighten quite a few things. Well, when I get it back I'll go easy on it.

I'm one of the clumsiest oafs you'll ever come across. My Father in Law frequently claims that I could f^ck up an anvil with a rubber mallot.:o

One way I've found to avoid overzealousness with my knives has been to not use anything but the bit itself in my finger tips. I still get 'em plenty snug, and haven't stripped out half as many liners since I started doing that.

Of course it could be that the liners really suck in those knives, but thought I'd share. (BTW the BM blue box is also perfect, the tools are so soft and crappy they'll break before the knife some times)

Runs With Scissors, thanks for the advice. I'm thinking maybe it's the blue box kit. It gives you that extra leverage since the box itself is off to one side. I'm going to start just using a single T6 Torx driver and see how that works instead of using the blue kit. I'll not be torquing the heck out of this stuff any more. :)

I recently got a 740 and it has become my favorite EDC. I love how smooth it is, the bevel of the blade, thumb hole, etc. One thought pertaining to the trouble that you have been having is that the liner on the side that the clip screws attach to is titanium. While very strong, titanium is not as hard as stainless steel so the threads may be more prone to stripping. Although I am not a knife maker, a possible solution might me to tap the holes with a larger threading to give it additional strength. Good luck. I certainly would not quit buying Benchmades just because of problems with this one model. Remember, it is a new design, and could still have some kinks in it. Benchmade will take care of you. Another thought would be to write to Bob Lum and ask him for suggestions.

Good call KFLEISIG, the next size screw will have deeper cut threads and will be stronger. There will be more surface area of the threads in the TI liner, therefore making a stronger connection.
