Stripped my muddy and tan BG AMS today with Citristrip. The coating came off easily with a plastic scraper. Gave it about 45 minutes, scraped and reapplied to the remaining coating for another 30-45 and took the rest off. I gently heated the blade before and during a few times with a heat gun b/c I read the stripper works better warm.

Here's a pic taken right after I got it cleaned up after stripping:

This is an in-progress pic after 10-15 minutes of scrubbing with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I used mineral oil as a lubricant (there's a little left on the blade):

Took it a bit further afterward with 600 grit and some #00 steel wool. Starting to look good, but I lost the light. Will try to get better pics once it's all cleaned up. Probably going to hand sand the scales as well. Glad I was able to score one of these

It's gettin there...

Gonna look like a champ!

I'll never understand the fascination for painted blades

If you're an operator and need to maintain light discipline that's one thing...but for using-- clean steel slices SO..... MUCH...... BETTER.

Maybe it saves Busse Combat Co. $$$$, but several models <like your AMS> look already nearly satin finished beneath the paint.

Thanks man!

Yeah, I don't have many coated blades outside of my Bussekin. On my choppers I do like the look of the worn coating, but now that I've got all of this goop I'll probably be doing more blades soon. For the AMS stripped/satin was absolutely the way to go for me. Couldn't be much happier with how clean the grind/finish is under the mud, thin one's fairly thin behind the edge too.

Here's a little bit better pic. Worked on the finish some more, especially in the areas up next to the scales where I still had some scale. Probably gonna call it good from here since it's going to patina anyway:

Liking this blade a lot. Now I just need to sharpen it back up and get to using it.

nice little slicer, that's still got a stout backbone...nice combo to have when you need it in a pinch...looks ready to be called into duty!

Thanks guys, this is only the second blade I've stripped. The first was my BK15. That was a bit different, stripped it with acetone and a razor blade, then reground it on stones. The Citristrip on the AMS was even easier, and cleaning it up wasn't bad at all. Probably will pick up some steaks, great idea either way. :)
