I stripped my BK-9 tonight now what should I do to it ? It looks pretty good I got all the old coating off but should I sand it and if so with what grit sandpaper.

Kind of up to you. If you want all the grind marks off it you'll have to start off low, like 80 or so, and work your way up the grits. Or you could leave it as is and blue it, or blue/bleach/PCB etch it, Dura-coat it, patina it. Mirror polish it. The choices are endless, really. I usually blue and etch, cuz I like how it looks.

If you do a blue/bleach etch, you really don't need to sand it, and not sanding it will make the etch work better. When you polish the blade, the corrosion process has less pores to grab on to.

Get micarta if you don't already have it...

I like just doing a light white vinegar patina because it doesn't get too dark and stays fairly consistent. Just to help protect from rust.. Then use it on patina producing stuff to let it start forming a natural patina. Onions, potatoes, citrus fruits, etc.

One you have a patina started I like to either strop or use 1k grit paper on the angles of the blade to add a polish and make the lines stand out. I just like how it looks.

Lots of pics here for you to get ideas from. Make it your own! :-)

I'm going to lengthen the clip-point on the end of my BK-9. I always thought it looked a little blunt with such a short clip. I did this to a BK-2 some time back and it looked great (if you like clip-points.) The clip looks proportionate on the BK-7 so I'll leave it be, but the 9 is going to get a 'nose' job!.....just my two cents!

After I stripped my BK-2 I just left it alone.
I think it looks good as is.

I would highly suggest re-profiling it. I did mine at around 19 degrees and even as big as it is, my BK9 feathers pretty well. I did mine free hand on my work sharp. I do not advise that. Most stressful 2 hours ever. If you can find a knife maker near you that would be ideal.

I'm expecting a bk-9 in the mail today, I would like to sharpen the clip and etch a skull into the blade before I strip it completely

I just put a patina on mine, you think lightly sanding with high grit sandpaper will bring out some of the lines created in doing the process?

Yes, for my bk2 after I did a patina, you Polish the high parts and it gives it a really nice look. You can use a 1k sandpaper or a leather strop
