After using this for a while I decided to go ahead and and strip it. I usually wait until I scratch up the coating a bunch but I didn't want to wait anymore. I like them so much better without the coating. Plus I have a set of micarta I dyed that will look good on a shiny Becker.

Here is a before picture of both knife and micarta.

I was a little disappointed to see this one has a cosmetic defect near the spine. If I wasn't trying to make this a real nice polished steel and micarta example I wouldn't care.

But oh well. I am just going to end up beating it up anyway. Not a big deal.

I think I am going to try rounding the spine and see how that looks.

Thanks Aikiguy.

I dye them with Fiebings professional oil dye for leather. Then I wax them with beeswax.

I think I have posted my technique for this before but I am happy to help and answer any questions if someone wants to give it a try.

Lookin' good Mauser!
Love the looks of that dark micarta.
Almost looks like wood.
Nice work.

Hey Mauser could you post a link to your dye technique. It looks great and I think more than a few of us will give it a try. Thanks Mauser

What is the cosmetic defect? Hard to tell exactly. A void in thickness of some sort?

It looks like the right side spine is scalloped a bit? Maybe?

Yeah I would say those both describe it pretty well. Its right under the spine at the top of the blade. The spine seems to be just slightly thinner on that side but most of it is on the side.

I took another picture that I think shows it better. Cant really see it from the top in pictures.

At first I thought maybe a slip with the belt sander when it was being made. But after getting all the coating off it seems a little darker there like it may have been a weird spot on the metal to begin with.

I am not sure.

I might go ahead and go after it with some sandpaper. See if I can blend it in a little better.

I'm going to think about it for now. Not stressed about it. I might just put the peanut butter scales back on use it how it is.

I think your right about the belt sander. Monday morning blade Oopps wrong side!!!!

Looks really good.

I have two 16s. I stripped both of them, and added micarta scales on one and wood scales on the other.

That knife looks great.

Love those scales. Great color and depth.

Looking forward to seeing your method.
