As soon as Jerry put up the post and pics of this knife, I knew I wanted to strip it. With a full height convex grind, there was a good chance that all the INFI dimples would already be ground away. My pilgrimmage to Knob Creek netted two of the black/orange models, along with some other toys.
I had read here that the stripper can lighten up the color on the G10, so I masked it with duct tape, and brushed the stripper on the exposed spine first.
The paint came off pretty easily, and a brush helped get in close by the scales. The whole masking thing, and taking off the tape became a real PITA, stripper got all over the scales anyway, and it didn't affect the color at all.
This shows all the supplies used.
Nice gray, nekkid INFI. (sorry, bad pic) There was some dimples along one side, just below the spine.
Then I set up the Harbor Freight 1x30 belt grinder with an 80 grit belt and started on the spine. I'll need to finish that by hand.
I'm very happy with how it has turned out so far. Still need to go to a higher grit, and maybe thin the edge profile a little, but even at 80 grit, it looks pretty good. It's hard to see, but there is still some of the line of dimples, and the logo is almost gone.
OK, Randucci, your turn.
