Stripped screw on Spyderco Domino...need help!

I've had a Domino sitting in the drawer for a few years now. I bought a new scale to install and wound up stripping the center pivot screw and I don't have the tools or knowhow to fix it.

What can I do with this? Is there anyone I can send it to for repair and install of the new scale?

Here are a couple photos and a link to more.

I don't even remember honestly. I bought the Domino and the scale at the same time years ago, messed it up, put it back in the package and forgot about it. Found it recently and want to get it fixed. I was working with whatever torx bits I had. I think a little cheapo set from Lowes. I remember one of the bits rounded out, not strong enough to turn the screw.

Before you do anything, buy yourself some quality bits like Wiha or Wera and throw those other ones away.

You can possibly try a larger bit and see if you can remove it.

Easy out from HF will pull it but I wouldn’t expect to find a new one. Send it back and offer to pay would be my first choice (I assume you can not get a replacement but do not know).

Edit: agreed with earlier poster that quality bit set would minimize. Better yet add heat with quality bits if having to apply too much torque.

Tools as well as hardware vary in spec and hardness. Quality bits are a lot cheaper in the long run, but “stuff” happens as well.

Learning experience is what I always tell myself!

I would suggest dealing with Spyderco directly.
BUT, if for some reason you don't want to do that, I would work with you, and remove those screws for you, if you'd like.

Not saying this is what to do, but it worked to get a frozen clip screw out of a DF 2. I sprayed it with Kroil, then used a heat gun and a drill in reverse on low speed. The screw head was already stripped. Of course, Spyderco tells me to buy a new clip set for $7, and would not send a screw only. Looked to be excessive adhesive on the screw, but I could be wrong.

My Wiha set came today and I was able to move the scale side screws. Still can’t budge the one on the back side pivot. I’m going to order some fresh screws from somewhere to replace them. I’ll apply some heat to that screw with a soldering iron to see if I can break it loose.
