hey folks

wanted to clean my small sebenza to fix some light sticking that it got lately (stop pin got loose, works flawlessly now )
as I proceeded to unscrew the screws with the provided tool I felt that one of them was softer and it's starting to strip both on the male and female side

the male screw doesn't let the provided allen wrench sit in the slot so it's hard to tighten or loosen it easily without stripping, the back one does that too, in the other 2 the wrench goes deep in the female screw so it's easy to tighten and loosen the screws but in the bad one it doesn't or goes in too little

I've contacted the customer support to see what I can do, do they ship or sell screws? anyone has that happen before?
Shipping the knife for a screw is too expensive, getting a couple spare "parts" or screws would be great. (even if I have to pay something)

yeah you can order new male/female pins for I think $7 each, heather or Jessie should get back to you with prices but I would just give them a call and order a couple.

$7? well not cheap but at least they have them, good to know

email is better, transoceanic calls are not cheap...

I stripped a pocket clip screw the other day. It got to the point where i could freely turn the CRK wrench inside the screw. I had to grab one of my other wrench's in my garage i've been having for years to get it out(barely) I called CRK, and the replacement pocket clip screws are $1.00. I have a knife there already getting worked on, so it will be sent back with it.

I do notice that the provided wrench sometimes doesn't fit snug, and you do have to really make sure that the wrench is "seated" properly, or stripping is easy to do.

The price list they sent me recently states:
Screws(male)-specify clip or body $1 each
Pins(female) $7.50 each

When I dis assemble a knife I put the wrench through the female side so the wrench can seat all the way in. I break the tension then stick the wrench in the other side to finish taking the screw out. Even a screw that's a little stripped looks really sloppy.

You cannot heat-treat cold headed stainless steel screws. To machine them from solid costs a lot of money. It is better to make sure the key is inserted properly in the hex before trying to undo. They are available from us individually.

As far as personal preference goes I much prefer the screws you guys were using a year ago.
The ones being used now seem to lack a little in finish. Not a big deal but it is something
I noticed when examining the couple new CRKs I've had.

Tell me where to buy better screws and I will buy then most of my grey hairs have come from screw manufacturers we have even tried Japan these are the best at this time .

Tey're going to send me a new screw and a new tool , covered by warranty
Going to buy a couple spare ones just in case

Any one know if it is possible to turn them over, having the female in the non lock side and the in in lock side?

I deal with a lot of different screw/bolts etc at work on our billet racing units...and its been my experience that using the wrong/cheap tool is responsible for more bludgeoned screws/bolts than anything else. My father was a custom gunsmith and long ago showed me the difference in a gunsmith screw and a regular screw...he had guns come in all the time that some putz tried to take a part with a mechanics screwdriver only to butcher the screws so bad that it had to be brought to him to take apart and replace the screws. Care, caution and attention to detail to what you're doing is always the best bet. Just my .02.

Anyone know how much it would be to get a replacement Umnumzaan pivot?

Thanks

I sent my small regular in two weeks ago just for this reason, I striped the pivot screw. At least the newer style screws allow us two/chances or a deep bite at an over tighten screw.

Odds are very high that's either a fitted part or a part that CRK wants to inspect the fit of before they return the knife to you - same result either way.

We buy the best hex keys available they are made Wera in Germany.

I wasn't inferring that your hex keys were the culprit...more of a "oh hey...I have that size...lemme use mine. No need to buy one" situation.

Wera is an excellent company indeed (as I'm quite sure you know) I'm a Wiha kinda guy myself.

I just stripped the screw out of my pocket clip for the Insingo:grumpy: I have ape paws, and twisted when it didn't want to twist. I will call Heather on Tuesday to get a back up or three:D
