Stripped ZK War Sword

I have been working quite a bit on my War Sword recently, and have now gotten it stripped (took a while, the coating on these blades is INTENSE). It took like two sheets of 150 grit, and then I touched it up a bit with some really old 600 grit and 2000 grit. So its not near as shiny as some of the BK2's that took the Becker forum by storm a week or so ago, but it does look quite a bit different.

Also, I want to keep on modding this, and make some bluejean micarta, and maybe eventually even try my own hand at making my own sheath some time down the road.

Here are some pics of it. The white tape on the handle is my attempt to see what a different handle material would feel like. Its just some white stretchy athletic tape with some serious texture and a bit of give to it. The only downside of this is that it doesn't snap into the sheath anymore.

Here it is in the middle of the stripping process. And yes, that is the side of my apartment, its that awesome.

Anyway, here are some photos of it.

Also, I think I might start a ZK users thread, as I don't think I've seen any others used out there.

Can't believe I missed this thread. For some reason that war sword looks a whole lot better to me with the exposed steel... between the bare steel and the black handle, it's almost like a real knife now instead of a gimmick :D Looks cool!

My buddy just got one of these and he is going to bring it along next time we go shooting/hang out at my cabin. I can't wait to see how it compares to my 9 I really like the stripped look man. Good job!

After a week or two of not really touching the war sword since I stripped it I pulled it out to take a look and noticed that I had the very beginnings of some rust forming . All I know is I have treated it just like my BK2, and my BK2 hasn't had any signs of rust. So just know that SK5 is much more sensitive to rust than 1095CV.

So I sanded off the rust and gave it a Franks red hot/mustard/apple patina and I really like the way it turned out. I'll try to post some pics up later today.

Also, I think I am going to start up a ZK users thread and see if I can't lure some ZK owners out to show them actually using the things. They're actually well made knives, its just some people think they're too gimicky :(.

Yeah I keep telling my buddy how much I love my beckers and he should look into Ka-bar in general. A few days after I emailed him the Catalog PDF he texted me he got the war sword! Not sure if he is going to do any mods to it but I know we are definitely going to use it some. I'll try to get some pictures once we hang out again.
