Stripping a Busse question

After looking at too many FBMLE pictures, I thought I might consider stripping my older FFBM. I wouldn't want to spend too long doing it though, since it was just a whimsical idea.

So, how would the finish under the coating typically look like on your basic FFBM? I mean, could I expect to see something competition grade rough with deep scratches, tool marks and dimples that would take a looong time to satin by hand? Or would it be more along the lines of "sort of doublecut" under there? Looking closely, I can see a few INFI dimples here and there on the blade even through the coating, so I guess it might not be all that smooth under there. :D The dimples are kind of fun though, the tool marks and scratches more bother me. Any wise advice, Hogs?

Sometimes you will get lucky and find a very smooth finish underneath but usually you will find plenty of dimples and tool marks with the coated blades. I have had better luck on smooth underneath with the full flat grinds.

Only one way to find out for sure. :p Go for it and post pics!

Here is what a FFFBM looks like after stripped with out sanding or anything.

I did polish the spine.. Typically the spine has nasty grind marks with black material in ground which is a bitch to grind/sand off.. Well worth the effort though.. Good luck !

This was one blade I kinda regret selling : ( but I'm sure I can find another down the line..

My OD green and green linen micarta FFBM had some pretty deep INFI dimples.

Just after stripping...

Wow, those are some good looking pics. Thanks, guys!

I'm thinking I'll just have to try my luck and see what happens, and hope there aren't too many of those horizontal tool marks / scratches. From previous stripping jobs on other knives ( :D ) those are the worst to get off the blade, at least for my meager skills.

Not wanting to hex you at all but you could end up with something like this.

Is that a ASH1? If so, what did you strip it with, salt water? When I stripped mine, it looked like it was double cut! It looked so good, I didn't add any finish back on (the bottom knife).

Hmm, now that I looked closer, what knife is that? It doesn't have a full height grind, but it does look to have the new logo.

I was told its a Ash by the owner,he will post pictures of it soon so I won`t post any more pictures of it just yet.I used a normal buy at the hard ware shop paint stripper.

I stripped my FFBM and FBM. Then I put them to the old Scotchbrite wheel and put nice edges on them. If you want an LE, get and LE. That's the best way to do it!

Those look good. The LE would be interesting otherwise, but getting one here to Finland would net at least a 1000 $, which is a bit much considering an FFBM can be had for half that...
