I am kind of a noob to Busse knives, I have owned some nice ones, but never really felt they were completly right for me...I just got a user Hell Razor and love it..it is a great knife for the woods...light and strong.
My problem is that I like to strip my coated blades, I never really liked coated blades, and I want to strip this one. So I have 2 questions...
1..will it seriously decrease any value of the knife if I strip it?
2. Do I have to worry about the handle if I use stripper (citric acid based stripper)...I have used this method before, but it makes me nervous on mycarta handled knives.
Thanks for any help Hogs, and I am glad to finally be the "proud" owner of a Busse. Gene

1. i wouldnt worry about the value. its gonna be a user? if so, strip 'er and beat 'er up!! if not, and you plan to sell/trade it, the leave the coating.

2. stripper will have absolutely no effect on the scales.

1. If it's a user already, then I don't think so. Hell Razors have been doing a decent job of holding their value. Especially the Magnum scaled one's.

2. Don't worry about the micarta, it'll be fine. Might I recommend the spray stripper you can find near the sandpaper in Wal Mart? It's some powerful stuff. Makes it REALLY easy. Works within a minute or two.

BY THE WAY: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

I stripped one before.. PEEL AWAY 7 Does an excellent job. The only thing I didn't like was the many pits under the coating. Also after I stripped it I had to polish the HELL out of it. The INFI underneath seemed almost tarnished?? Turned out allright after I put allot of work into it. Not as easy as I thought it would be.

I stripped my Hell Razor a while ago. The scales were tan linen-micarta. I submerged the HR in a stripper bath. There was no noticeable discoloration or darkening of the lighter colored grips.

The tarnished color of the stripped blade looks pretty cool. It is a dark grey and non-reflective. I have spent hours and quite a bit of sand paper manually trying to level out the pits. I took it to a point that the blade still has dimples, just not as deep. Then I polished the blade. She looks great with a polished blade with the dimples.

Thanks guys, I am not concerned with the small imperfections under the finish, that seems to be the same on all knives that are coated. I use Citri-Strip?? It is in a spray can..works fantasticly, I just stripped my Ratmandu and finished a bushcraft style sheath for it...I also love the heck outta the Ratmandu...perfect woods knife as far as I can tell. I was worried about the Mycarta (tan)..so you guys have put my mind at ease. After I finish, maybe I can get some pics up..Gene

i have stripped many a busse, i use heavy duty stippers because that is what i have in my shop...... polishing out the infi dimples is rough but worthwhile, do a search and you will see plenty of examples.

Stripped one some time ago. The Infi was not as dimpled as some I've seen. Good look with the black Micarta scales.

Here's a stripped and modded MudRazor:

No need to worry about the micarta nor

about value (me thinks!?! :D)

Finished!
I think they came out really well. I particularly like the Hell Razor's new look, I was already impressed with the Ratmandu. I made the bushcraft sheath for the Rat, and I dyed the handle of the Busse black and then touched it with 600 grit and oil to give it a wood look...I think it came out pretty good. Thanks for the help, Gene

Gene,
I LOVE how your Hell Razor came out! :D Think it might be time to do mine...

A girl needs a knife...

that hellrazor is outstanding! Did you use machines or hand sanding? If so could you details the grits on the paper you used?

Here is my Hell Razor in the stripper bath and after the coating is stripped. The grips were not effected by the stripping.
