Easy enough with my Beckers and Esees. Take the scales of and spray it with klean strip. Been a little leery of doing my Mark1. Klean strip eats through my vinyl gloves fairly quickly, so I'm concerned it will mess up the Kraton handle on the knife. Any advice on how to get the black dress off this one?

Get a sheet of polyethylene and stab the blade through, then only work on the side thats protruding through the material.

Thanks, I do appreciate the response. That's certainly an option. I've seen photos here of Mark1s fully stripped... blade, guard, and pommel... so I thought there might be something that won't eat the Kraton.

I just masked off the leather/plastic surfaces w/ a few wraps of blue masking-tape, and then coated the metal w/ CITRISTRIP gel using a disposable 1" paint brush and Q-tips.

Let it sit for 30-45 min. and then razor-blade the "skin" off. Repeat if necessary and use a small wire brush to get the cracks and crevices.

Then, hose it off really well and unmask, then hose it off again.

Finally, I like to wire-brush the leather and treat w/ Sno-Seal, and then patina the steel w/ about 15 min. of Vinegar wash.

(Also, grind the pommel a little bit to improve the balance and handling. ;) )

Great tip Garandimal! Tried it on a short kabar I'm modding, and the finish came out really nice. Looks like stone washed, only a little darker. Buffed it with no other treatment but citristrip and a liitle wire brushing. Looks great!

Don't forget the upper guard and O-rings... ;)
