i was thinking about stripping my rc4 tonight but all i have is gas, would that work? or would it do something to the steel?

I say wait until you have proper materials, but I don't have much experience in removing the coating. Except when I convexed my Izula and removed the coating with sandpaper. Others, such as TTD(who stripped an RC3mil), will chime in soon.

most people seem to use paint stripper.

some have used sandpaper or a utility knife blade, but that seems like extra work to me.

some have used glass bead blasting (NOT sandblasting) but then i expect you'd need to sharpen it.

i don't think gasoline would work well and i don't recommend gas as a solvent because of the low flash point.

To clarify, I didn't intentionally remove the coating with sandpaper. But it started happening and I figured I would just remove all the coating.

Um, I'd hit a Home Depot or Walmart for some paint stripper. I'm pretty sure gas is not the best way to strip your Esee. Alternately, you could use sandpaper and patience.

I just used some Klean-Strip (from Walmart) on my Izula tonight, worked great! 15mins and it just peeled off.

Paint stripper is the way to go.

Then use a razor blade to scrape off the goo.

The longer you leave the stripper, the easier it will be.

I started convexing my Izula a while back and then got bored and sanded off most of the coating. After finishing the edge I used paint stripper last night to remove the rest of the coating and then put a patina on it. I left my Izula in for about 45 minutes and then scraped the paint off with my fingers very easily while wearing gloves.

Yeah this brand or similar works great. Gas isn't what you want. It'll be well worth it to do it right....

didn't mean you, but i think someone else said they sanded the finish off. you were just the first person in this thread to mention sandpaper.
