Today I decided I would get around to stripping and convexing my AMS. Didn't take too long and it is sharp and looks great in my opinion! I might polish and sand it some more tomorrow but we will see!

Thanks for looking!

Where can one find the best step by step info on how stripping is done, and also what the pros and cons are? IIRC, years back, I read something about stripping leaving behind some kind of irregular marks on the blade or something, no?
Also interested in how the blade etching/stamp/logo was left unharmed/etc. What's the best thread on the subject? Thx guys.

Oh, btw, for years I've wondered if anyone has taken a black finished Busse, and bead blasted away "stripes" to ultimately wind up with camo/tiger stripes on the blade. Has anyone done this to your knowledge?

Did you etch the logo or was it all ready that deep? Looks good and should cut better for you too.

Haha yes thats armhair... The logo wasn't etched at all, just sprayed the stripper on and let it do its thing!

Razor, I can give you step by step real quick, let me know if you need anything in depth:
1.) Buy the stripping compound/chemical/spray. I used Klean Strip or something like that (aerosol, orangeish can from Home Depot)
2.) GLOVES, buy some or make sure you have some rubber gloves
3.) I put the knife in a paint roller tray
4.) Spray it on there, I coated everything with metal on it well.
5.) Wait 10 mins or so
6.) Scrape bubbled up coating with a paint scraper, razor, etc.
7.) After it is all scraped off see if you missed any spots. (I had to do the spine and underside twice)
8.) Repeat til done
9.) wipe it down well, wash it off and oil it, up to you.
10.) Sharpen and then go beat on it :)

Hope that helps!

Certainly not the best, but here are some pictorials of my own meager efforts at what we call a 'ghetto satin'. The Ruck was done by hand sanding, the others were finished with a Harbor freight 1x30 belt grinder.

Pros: Naked steel just looks better, IMO. Also cuts better, no coating to drag.

Cons. Stripping reveals an ugly gray layer on the steel, which takes some work to remove. And the Bussekin CG blades may have a variety of machining marks, coarse grind lines, and INFI pits on the surface. Sometimes you get lucky, especially if the blade has a full height flat grind, then it will look pretty good stripped. Sometimes you get fugly. My SR 1311 is really ugly naked, but she sure cuts. (sorry no pics) Also, if you use a power grinder to reprofile and thin the edge, as is my preference, then you should assume that the Busse warranty may no longer apply. You own your warranty at that point, and have to rely on the toughness of INFI and your own common sense to avoid major damage.

Ok guys, I got it. Question: If I were to order a Busse TGLB, knowing I might possibly strip it in the future, is there a specific color/blade finish that would be best suited for future stripping, or does it matter?
