Hey guys,

I ordered a BK11 and am planning to strip off rough powder coating. Should I use paint stripper or epoxy stripper, and would the stripper damage the edge? Could I prevent said damage from occurring by putting tape on the edge? I'm new to modifying knives (even one as basic as stripping the coat off), and any tips/help would be great.

I use arosol type called quick strip or zip strip. Can't remember off hand. I wouldn't worry about the edge too much except warning that it may cut you. You'll probably want to sharpen it once stripped anyhow.

The edge should be fine and most any stripper will work to get it off. I use acetone because I have a ton of it but it is volatile and not as easy to use as many of the store bought strippers. I use a box cutter blade to scrape it off once softened.

How do you do it then since it just evaporates?

I have a bottle of it lying around from another project so I might try it only problem is it evaporates easily
