I am wandering what would be the best way to strip the coating from my Cold steel Srk. I see this has been talked about a lot but I think cold steel has changed the coating material on the Sk5 versions of the Srk and Recon tantos, I’m aware that it will protect the carbon steel but I would like the stone washed look, regards Hermit.

You have to pay for some good strippers

Did I not post a YouTube link on this thread? Maybe it’s against the rules. Go to YouTube, type in removing coating from knife, buy that foam stuff. Looks easy as hell my friend. Save yourself the money of paying someone to do it.

If you have the current displaced carbon black you're not going to "strip" it without grinding.

I don't know what models currently have it, but when I was in the factory (last week) they said that sooner or later all their black finished stuff would be getting the new coating. It's smoother, holds to a much thinner tolerance, and you cannot scratch it. I tried using a knife blade on it and it just slid off. I have a 1911 Colt that I had the same type finish put on 5-6 years ago (when it was pretty rare and expensive) and it still looks like brand new.
