Has anyone stripped their Esee? If I decide to strip my esee 5, is it like the beckers how I would have to etch the logo if I want it to stay? Or is the logo strong enough to with stand the stripping? Thx.

The logo will stay but it will be faint. I've seen some guys use PCB Etchant on the logos prior to stripping to achieve a more defined look. I've never etched the logos on mine but it seems to be a simple but time consuming process.

If you use a citrus based paint stripper it will not affect anything at all, but the coating. You don't want to be using chemicals that can potentially dissolve your blade. If it does that to the metal, imagine what it is doing to your lungs and eyes. the PCB Etchant solution from Radio Shack should be good enough to get the job done.

Here is a thread from a few years back:

Thx guys. I will use the citrus based one on your recommendation. Thank you. However since I do sand the blades occasionally, I will prob etch it to be safe. I am assuming that sanding over the logo will slowly fade it as well.

The logo is stamped/punched/cut pretty deep you can deepen it by following the same steps in the thread I linked. The citrus strip I used is called Citristrip. Available all over the place for less than $10. Radio Shack sells the etchant solution, also inexpensive.

Here's a pic of my stripped Izula. I first used the Radio Shack etchant on the logos and tangstamps. I had trouble with it running underneath both electrical and painter's tape and damaging the edge. Because the logo is on a slant compared to the tang, you can't keep both level so you need a way to keep the etchant in place. Finally I made a little "moat" with hot glue and that worked well. Next time I'd do them in separate passes. Took all day because it was spring and hadn't warmed up yet. I then used some some kind of orange paint stripper (don't remember the brand) and finally gave it a vinegar patina.
