Nope. Acetone won't even touch it. Assuming it's the same black Teflon that is on the American lawman.
You can either scrape it off using brass or some other soft metal. (so you don't scratch the blade) Or you can use pretty much any kind of paint stripper. The stripper will allow you to wipe the coating off in minutes.
I did mine in about 4 hours. Did 1/2 - took a break overnight and finished the other 1/2. I's much nicer in person. The digital camera and bright flash pick up tiny marks and lines that you can't see with your eyes in regular daylight.
Also my tanto corner (below the tip) is way down from these pics, I've continued to remove metal from that portion of the edge. I'l have to post some new pics. It's a great project and feels good to have a one of a kind Recon-1.
I only used a thin flat-head screwdriver with a sharpened edge (something between what you'd get in an eyeglass repair kit and a small, regular type of screwdriver) , also the tip of my S30V Kershaw Leek. Scraped the teflon coating right off. I don't like solvents, but that might be easier?
This method leave a nice stonewashed blade underneath. I also sanded down the G-10 under the pocket clip area so it carries really nice now too. It's a big, tough knife - but light as a feather! Uhmm....don't mind my index finger, my wife just made some brownies!
Trying to get a little bit of the "Spanto" effect from my XM-18....
