Hey guys,

Just picked up a Rucki w/ black micarta handles and black finish, has anyone stripped one of these? Did you strip the tang between the handles?? Will stripper damage the Micarta??

Just looking for some information/tutorial. I think I would like it better bare metal, and might even put a satin finish on it. Haven't made up my mind entirely.

Are the handles glued on?
 
Stripper wont hurt the micarta. There is an epoxy that holds the handles on (I think). I like my sr101 coated though...at least with a blade that size
 
You can't really hurt micarta without power tools. It's been tested in all kinds of chemicals, lit on fire, crushed and beaten etc and there's not really a weakness to it.
 
In my experience, the handles are not glued on. I've drilled a few tubes out and the handles come off nicely.

I've seen a few step by step's on stripping a blade, may have been on the Busse forum though.
 
Ive stripped a lot of Swamp Rats but I've never felt the need to remove the handles. If I were you, I would strip the finish and leave the handles on. It also helps with not having to worry about rust developing under the handles. Paint stripper won't hurt the Micarta in the least.
 
Had removed the handle slabs on one Busse and one Rat once- None of them was glued. I am very sure that they dont glue them handles- no need to do so.
As other has stated- no need to remove handles to strip blades- Has stripped Busses and kin with G-10, micarta and Res-C, no problemo.
