Hi guys,

I have a 1311 and I was wondering if there is any benefit to stripping the blade.

The coating will protect the blade from rust etc but do you think it will have any noticeable affect on chopping?

I am thinking of stripping it and letting it develop a natural patina or doing a forced patina.

Ascetically I think it would be nice but do you think there would be any performance gain? i.e. less friction, anything else..

Any Dogs who have stripped their scrapyard blades I'd love to see pics if you have them...

Thanks..

Im all for stripping Infi, however, SR101 & SR77 are not very rust resistant, I would leave the coating on but thats because I suck at keeping my blades oiled. If you keep up with oiling and dont plan to be in a wet environment for an extended period of time go for it. Sometimes coatings will make the blade stick a little when chopping, thats probably the only benefit aside from looks.

I think about stripping my rattle hawk sometimes, you give it a chemical bath, right?

Sometimes I like coating just because I like to work at wearing it off, it's like a side project while I'm chopping, but sometimes I just want wood to fly so I switch to a satin blade.

Just use it until the top coat wears smooth. That will take care of most of the friction. There is a primer layer underneath (you'll notice a grey layer when top coat starts wearing off)
A chunk of SR-101 that big will start developing rust at some point and keeping it oiled at all times will prove a challenge, especially outdoors.

I noticed no difference in chopping performance between my stripped and coated junglas. The stripped one became a pain to keep scratch and stain free. If you prefer the look than strip it, but you wont notice any difference when chopping wood, atleast i didnt. I gave the uncoated junglas to a friend getting into knives. he was blown away considering his only blade was a chinese rambo knife and a condor machete i recomended to him.
